I would hold off on it. Already one person in that thread said that they couldn't do a nandroid backup so it may be awhile until that one is rooted. It was said in the thread that this new RUU is the final one with root removed, but one or two other posts state this is the same RUU we already had.... Not sure. I'm happy for now is all I know.

Just did my nandroid backup, backing up my sdcard now so I can start working on apps2sd. I'll let you know how it goes.

Hmm, Im going to hold off on this latest Ruu until we have confirmation on root, there is a utility I found called TA utility that moves the cache for a lot of the apps to SD. Still trying to figure out how to get app2sd working ...the voice works for dialing now as long as you dont use the default voice app and just use the search option via the search button on the phone . Waiting to hear more information on the latest RUU

lolz, ok first apps2sd attempt results in a boot loop. However, I do believe I know what I did wrong, so after I flash my recovery I'll see what it does.

Edit:
laughing at myself now, it actually did work the first time, I just didn't wipe everything as I didn't want to redo everything. However, after wiping everything and before restoring my old image it looks like it worked. Before I restore my image I am going to see if it worked for sure.

One bug I found is that you can no longer access accuweather from the weather widget. I also experience some slowdown at times, when typing. Yes, the haptic feedback is turned off.

Anyone have landscape view for the homescreen? I thought I read somewhere that it was to be in 2.1 but mine doesnt have it....

wasn't able to get apps2sd working last night. after partitioning card I flashed fresh 2.0d and it immediately found the partition and moved all my apps. however I haven't had time to go through all the scripts to see how he got it to automagically work but when I get a chance i'll see if I can get it going.

First I have heard of an updated RUU, anyone have a link to the thread it was posted in or a download link!

Thanks

the thread is from Friday I think, over on xda. but I would not do this one if I were you. if it is what they described it as there is no root and all the stock apps. so you can forget about doing wireless tether and anything else needing root.

oh yea and i founf the perfect live wallpaper, Bezier!!!

Thats the one I use. Most of them vanish once the lock screen kicks in. Digital rain works well too. Installed the xda custom keyboard tonight. Still testing out a few things..phone seems a little sluggish now that I added that so Im going to test it out and see if its worth keeping ...Got it because of the voice input but from what I can tell 2.1 allows most apps to do that too. Still trying to find a good app2sd thread I can test out but no luck. Now if the new ROM has apps2sd capability shouldnt that be found in a menu somewhere in the final release ? Would be nice to just click a button and have it work ....:D

apps2sd is not going to be in the final release. that is an add-on to the custom ROMs, and there are tooany issues for it to probably ever be official. if you take out the SD, there go the apps, including system apps. if using ext2 for the partition it can be corrupted if not properly unmounted. not to mention that flash memory, like sdcards, can only be written to so many times before they die. using apps2sd, especially with a journaling file system like ext3 or ext4 will decrease the life of your sdcard immensely.

the solution to not having enough memory to install apps is for phone manufacturers to not be stingy and increase the system memory. :-)

I too am using the xda keyboard for the voice input. didn't think better keyboard was as good. xda has no lag if you turn off the feedback.

For those of you who want apps2sd, there is now an update.zip that you can flash from recovery. Below is the link to the thread at xda, it has the file and instructions. This will move all your apps and the dalvik-cache to your sdcard automatically. When you partition your sdcard in recovery everything on the sdcard will be wiped, so backup your sdcard before starting this. Also, 512MB-1024MB is more than enough, no need to create a 1.5GB or larger ext2 partition.
