If your awake time and up time are the same then you have something that is keeping it awake!
Goto setting/about phone/battery/battery use, and see what is running all the time!

I unplugged my phone yesterday at 8 in the morning ran the RUU at 9, and had very heavy use the whole day and at midnight when I plugged my phone in I still had 30% battery!
well now the the awake time and up time changed since i plugged it in but all day yesterday it was the same. Nothing shows in the battery use right now since since i unplugged it for about ten seconds and plugged it back in, it only displays what was using the battery for the short time it was unplugged which was nothing. Hopefully it fixed itself with the awake time and up time being different now

No offense, but ti the average user (which is most of us), the info is very useful whereas the link you posted fails to explain to the average user how to get rid of the RUU they just ran.

Some of us use our phones for work and NEED the phone to work properly and simply don't have hours to figure out what will fix x or what will brick the phone.

Additionally, the link to AC was able to answer certain questions that I personally had. Such as being STOCK and being to go back to 1.5 if needed (with the new hboot).

I've seen people rush into things posted on forums before without doing any research. I think it's great that people are sharing the info they find! :)

If you read through this thread you would know that this is a very "do it at your own risk" process. You would also have seen that many of us said these things early on. However, the link I provided actually does have one of the guys at xda explaining how to back out of this.

As for the link you provided, the post stated that if you use the RUU you can't root the phone.

This is totally false. In fact the RUU is rooted itself, but you must use adb to take advantage of it. If you want the normal root you are used to, then you must root your phone, as I have done, using the normal method. Rooting works perfectly fine.

The link you provided also stated that you can't go back once you RUU. However, the link I provided had someone telling you exactly how to do this. I have not personally tried this because the RUU is working so well on my phone there is no reason to go back now. With a little work I got the protected apps running, installed busybox and got my phone how I wanted it. I'll probably stick with this until after the final version comes out and root is confirmed.

The reason I need root is because even though the 2.1 build from sprint is fast, it gets even faster once you remove all the extra apps you don't use. Also, I imagine eventually the devs will figure out how to get live wallpapers and other 2.1 goodies. So while this RUU is not the be all end all of ROMs, IMO it is right now the best one for me. My only problem with your previous post was that the information was totally false.

It really sounds like you had an app that was keeping it awake. If it keeps happening I would get ATK and see what is still running. Spare Parts can also show you which app or service is keeping it awake. When I had 2.0d fresh my awake and on time were the same, though it wasn't really awake the whole time. I had great battery time and nothing was keeping it awake in spare parts.

Since I ran the RUU my phone is showing the correct awake and on time though. Charged it yesterday and at 1 AM unplugged. When I got up this morning, it showed 9 hours uptime, and only 30 minutes awake time.

I have never had better battery life than with this RUU!

Also you can goto setting/applications/running services to see what is actually running on the phone at any given time!

Do.you have to be rooted to do this?

Also, anyone who has no protected apps in your market, here is how I fixed mine.

I modified my build.prop last night but it is quicker to just find a working one. So I posted one at the link below.

1)extract that and then adb push the build.prop to /system/
2)clear market cache
As I said before, I modified my own and last night after doing this it still didn't show the protected apps in market, however this morning it did. So it may take awhile to kick in for some reason.

Am I the only one who thinks that it is weird that the people that say it works just joined the forum this month?

Yeah I did just join because I was going all over the web trying to find out why the live wallpaper didn't work and bumped into this forum. You can look my handle up on sprintusers.com, it's about 10 years old.

My understanding is that there is supposed to be a new version of Sense UI for 2.1 coming out that will enable live wallpapers. All we have now does not allow live wallpapers unless you change it so you are not using Sense. As for bugs, what I had read yesterday was this this tester version still had plenty, and that the ROMs the guys at xda have been working on were to fix the bugs.

Also, as of last night, haven't checked out XDA yet this morning, one of the devs over there had made a flashable update.zip out of this adding in su, busybox and all other necessities.

It makes sense why live wallpapers doesn't work. I know the sense UI on this version of 2.1 is not the latest ones I've screen shots of but it's not the same old one either because on the new one, if i pinch at any of the screens it shows all 7 pages as thumbnails on the screen so there is some sort of a mod. Makes me wonder if sprint is not going to go with the rumored latest and greatest senseUI for this phone.

Do.you have to be rooted to do this?

This question is yes and no. If you used the RUU to update to 2.1, then you are rooted because this is a developer test version. It is rooted and if you have the sdk installed then you need do nothing else to fix the market app. Just open the command prompt and use adb to push the build.prop to system.

So no, you do not need to root the phone further than it already is. However, if you find it more natural to work in the shell, then rooting it using the normal method works well too.

Well since this build is so close to being done, and there are upgrades to the sense ui in this build, I would say we are looking at the new sense ui for the hero. It is better than we had, but not as good as the one for the Evo. So I think HTC is not allowing live wallpapers for the hero sense ui. I am sure that the devs at xda will get them working on the final 2.1 shortly after it is released.

On a side note, I have been able to switch to the helix launcher on my phone now but I have not done anything to add live wallpapers yet. I think launcher 2 is the one used in the ROMs that have live wallpapers, but launcher 2 fced on me when I installed it. I might start looking into it but live wallpapers are not that important to me so it is a backburner issue.

I have read through the thread and am fully aware that this is an "at your own risk" kind of thing. HOWEVER, lots of people now days DON'T read things and follow a "jump first ask questions later" mentality.

I never provided a link!!! I was simply one to respond to it!!!

Seriously...

Like I said, regardless of how true information may or may not be, it is still VALUABLE because it helps people reconsider what they are doing rather than jumping blindly into something.

That makes no sense. False information is not valuable. Anyway, moving on now.

Man I really wanna check this out but I'm nervous.

Over at androidcentral they have a thread with 3 options, they say its best to root the phone first then put this on.

I have a 100% stock phone so I'm not sure I wanna go through all the headaches since I have never done it before. =\

Anyway, guess I'll prolly wait for the official release if it ever gets here!! Thanks for the info guys

Well I hook up the usb to the laptop and did the upgrade without a hitch, I'm really glad I did the plunge. The only thing I've notice that is missing from 2.1 is under the contact info, I can not send a contact or a phone number directly to voicemail anymore, its missing from the list when you edit. Otherwise happy.

ok. i got a bootloop on my first go around using the root method. i gave up on that and just used the ruu instead so i could play with 2.1 for a little while. issues i have found are the known marketplace issues, but now i am constantly getting a forceclose with process.gapps. gonna retry the root method after i undo the ruu method.

The marketplace issues are gone for me since I did the fix I explained earlier. Every app now appears to be there.

I just installed the wireless tether and got that going without any problems. Just had to use the older version 1.60 since the newer ones are known to not actually transfer the data after connected.

UTnick, the install can take a long time for some phones. I have read of folks having to leave the phone for 10 minutes or so while the RUU writes to the phone. If you interrupted that process that may be the problem you are having. The com.google.process.gapps I believe is usually associated with the market. First step there would be to clear the market cache and see if it fixes that. A reboot after clearing the cache never hurts either. ;)

OK I got this working. Used the ROM (not the RUU) and all the fixes and stuff... This is really nice! Only one issue so far... is Google Maps Navigation supposed to work? I tried to use it but I dont get the "Navigate" button anywhere... ???

I have never had better battery life than with this RUU!
I was gonna post and ask if it was just me or was anyone else noticing it?

Battery life is GREAT to say the least. I just took the phone off the charger and made a 57 minute phone call. The batter went from 100% to 94% where normally a (nearly) one hour phone call would have dropped me about 25-30% easily!

I charged the phone yesterday after I did the update and finally had to charge it again this afternoon. Nearly 24 hours and was only down to 20%.

My google maps has never done navigation that I'm aware of. That's what Sprint Navigation was/is for

Can you try to explain step by step (make a guide) what you did,to take the sprint apps after installind the ruu????

no kidding - i'm psyched and ready to go

i've read this... kinda scares me ("never going back. Ever." - ooh) --- i think i would opt for the second option - downloaded their zip file.. but there's no exe so i'm kinda like.. ??

i found this... and i'm ready to do all that if i have to - can someone just give us a nudge in the right direction - i'll read and i'll d/l and i'll install and copy-and-paste

just help us out
:)

The new navigator works fine, I tried it out on my way to take the kids to the park. Just click on the microphone in the google search widget. When it says to speak you just say "Navigate to Walmart" or "navigate to Autozone" and it will locate where you want to go and show an icon for navigator, you click it and it shows you turn by turn directions. It even has layers you can apply for traffic or satellite images and so on. It's really awesome.

As for removing apps, it is the same as when you root a stock image.
once rooted open a command prompt on your pc
adb shell
su
cd /system/app
rm AppName.apk

There are sometimes some in /data/app or /data/app-private. If you google removing the apps there are a lot of guides for doing this.

I also went ahead and installed both better keyboard and the xda keyboard. My better keyboard didn't work on voice for some reason, it has the mic but it didn't do anything. Mine is an older one though, like 4.5 or something. The XDA version was a pain, first you have to uninstall touch input, which is the HTC_IME.apk but not by just deleting the apk. You have to actually uninstall it and clicker.apk. Then install the HTC_IME.apk and Clicker.apk that come with the XDA zip file. This one works perfect for voice.

ok. so i have a rooted my phone and running the 2.1 leak that way. i removed the ruu version.

problems i am experiencing now are with syncing my contacts with facebook. it doesn't download my friends list when i try to sync them up.

also, the process.gapps seems to be linked to google trying to sync. which prevents me from syncing my contacts back up with google. google for some reason didn't have all my contacts synced up so i had to rely on mybackup pro to restore my contacts. it did that wonderfully, but now i can't sync them back up with google without getting that darn FC with the process.gapps.

haven't tried making any calls or texts yet. haven't hooked up bluetooth yet either. wifi is working perfectly, though. and marketplace seems to be just fine as well.

uh oh. it's been past ten minutes and this bad boy is only cycling between the white HTC and Sprint splash sreens. i think something is not working as it should.

anyone?

Be patient it will work. Mine took at least 20 minutes total and it did the same thing yours is right now.

I havent had one single problem and installed it yesterday. Using wireless Bluetooth headphones works and tethering works, so far I have not noticed one thing that hasnt worked since updating.
