Leaked 2.1 or Waiting for OTA?

This is definitely no risk. The eris was made to have 2.1.

Yea, we know the Eris can handle it, but there are still a few bugs they need to adress before pushing it to everyone. Frisco has valid points in most of his arguments, just they are irrelevant as we each make our own choices.

Werd.

Part of my point has always been that those choices are valid, W4lly.

My lean toward OTA is out of long-term habit of seeing things become complete with time, along with not wishing to encourage leaks by participating in their use.

Whether it happened because of a security breach of some sort or because the developers wanted it unofficially tested by masses is not relevant to me because it is just not the official release.

Nobody is wrong; it's just a preference in this day and age wrt software development and deployment.

As there are still a few bugs with 1.5 now also, which they haven't addressed for months. 1.5 was abandoned. I am not forcing anyone to install just putting my opinion in there as well.

Not only are the naysayers getting thoroughly tiresome, they're incessantly repeating a mantra that's based on some seriously flawed logic.

Basically, they're implying that the current 2.1 is seriously, dangerously flawed ... and then saying that a wonderfully-perfect 2.1 is going to be officially released Any Day Now. But if the current 2.1 beta is really that evil, that mandates more development time and another beta-test period ... and inevitably, no official launch in Q1.

OTOH, if the official release does happen soon, that means that the current beta (or something extremely close to it) is destined to be the official release ... and it's therefore not as bad as the naysayers are claiming.

Personally, I'm very glad I didn't fall for that messed-up logic.

It is a possibility that this is the complete update. This could be the official release than they will address problems and have another bug update later. Again look at the "official/complete" 1.5 having more problems than this "unofficial/incomplete" release.

Anyone on this forum with an ERIS should already have tried the 2.1 upgrade. If you haven't, you should get a Motorola V9 and not be allowed on this forum.
This in not an opinion, but a FACT, and the ADMINS just haven't begun enforcing yet.

No, I'm just kidding.

But really, just try it, you'll like it :)

It will much, much more "possible" that the OTA will be official.

Why wait when sitting on 1.5, which is full of bugs of its own? 1.5 has gone through a number of updates and the youtube player still wont work for one. They are basically abandoning 1.5 as they know it is a flawed OS. You can search the forums and find a lot more problems with 1.5 then 2.1 right now.

Its easy to pick on the new guy from the other side of the room..come over and say hi and you'll see he's a hell of a guy.

I wonder what you're talking about in your last sentence there. If you're feeling "picked on" in this discussion then you're likely best to browse the web, etc, but stay out of forums because there is zero of that coming from my keyboard. "Picking on?" Good Lord, man. Need a guy-hug? :D

I'll respond to the first part of that post: I got the Eris when 1.5 was finished because the only updates I've seen come to the device were for a few apps that I got off Market; nothing for the OS or UI or whatever.

As moderator vido.ardes said, "this 2.1 update is an unofficial leak and therefore comes with risks. I would advise everyone considering doing it to research it before making any commitment to upgrading."

That's all I'm saying, as well.

Yeah, I should have heeded that advice even better than I did, with my gf's phone.

I'm glad I haven't upgraded my Verizon Eris. I am very disappointed with how 2.1 is treating the Cricket Eris.

Anybody tried to get 1.5 back after installing the leaked 2.1?

you can't, nor do you need to really.

that guy is on cricket, he should be happy it works at all, this is a verizon phone.

i see a lot of people getting so upset

there are 2 groups here

people who did it, and people who are waiting

the people who did it, cool, i did it too, awesome, we have 2.1 and will be getting the OTA when it is final...no need to debate the merits to those who choose to wait, it is their choice.

the people waiting, cool, awesome, no worries, if you want to wait that is no skin off my back, your self control is a great feat indeed. im sure you will be elated with the 2.1 OTA.

so there you have it people, chillax, no reason to try and beat someone to submission, there is not right or wrong, only choice.

My biggest issues with her phone were

a) The HTC keyboard DEFAULTS to t9 every time, not 'Abc' if you put it there, in Messages (for example). She doesn't use t9. She's furious. She texts like crazy.

b) HTC Facebook sync seems to not want to sync anything at all. In fact, the list of profiles to link to stays emtpy, no matter how long the screen stays up. After a while, an elusive.

com.htc.bg must force close.

Every time it seems like it's about time for Facebook HTC Sync to do its thing.

I'm waiting for the full version of 2.1 Not dealing with this stuff on my phone. Kudos to those who it works well for though.

You can fix A) just hit the gear when the keyboard is open and click "Text Input" then uncheck prediction. Worked for me. As for b) I don't use facebook.

first second i could get it i was running 2.1....:)i really dont notice too much of a performance difference, but after using the suggested tips in the tips section i did...:)

Yeah, unchecking prediction is for the full QWERTY keyboard. Not the Phone Keypad input method.

No workie on 1.5 or 2.1 either, after testing this.

I decided to wait for OTA, but if March 31st comes and goes w/o an OTA update, I will be installing the leaked update on April 1st, hopefully I won't have any April Fools when I do it...
