Leaked 2.1 or Waiting for OTA?

Honestly, if anyone's thinking about installing the leaked update, you might as well do it now. That way, you get maximum time spent with 2.1!

If you wait till April 1 to install it, that will be a sign to the cosmos that the update will be released on April 2. :)

i see a noobie with boobies!

^lol i had you. i send you a pm. i kid i kid. i still rocking 1.5. soon to be 2.1 tonight or once i get time.

Just spent a half hour reading this thread. I'm going to do the update when I have a few minutes. The only thing holding me back is the look I'd get from my wife if I told her I now have to spend $300 I don't have to replace a phone I intentionally f'd with.

Frisco, aren't you overdue for a well-written reiteration of your "I'm standing over here on this nice safe rock until the unsinkable Titanic comes to pick me up" argument?

J/K. You don't really need that from some smartass noob. ;-)

BTW, I got my file here. Is that still a current, safe place to find it? (Edit: apparently it is.)

I said i was going to wait and that's what my vote was but I went ahead and am running 2.1 now. oh well for waiting. Now that i am 2.1 it's amazing I have to take a video of it and i'll post it up

Woot! Easy-peasy and nothing but fast so far. Major thanks to the gurus behind the curtain that made this possible. Now to go find my apps....

1.5 on my eris was driving me insane. I had to use the stock android home screen because sense was unbearably slow. Once I installed 2.1, sense is WAY faster. My phone is way faster and plus, 2.1 supports apps that 1.5 doesn't. I'm really loving the update. If you don't feel that it's worth the risk, then don't update. All I'm saying it that I felt that the update was worth the risk, and I was definitely right :)

Man, I soooooo wanna change my vote and update.

But, me and The Missus (aka She Who Must be Obeyed) are planning a road trip today. I don't wanna have to reinstall CoPilot, just in case Google aint up to the task (and, I have all my landmarks save in CoPilot, just in case we get lost)

Maybe tomorrow. Geeting tired of missing out on the "new hotness"....

Thanks for the link. I hadn't stumbled on that thread yet.

It's a pretty short list, and they don't all affect everyone considering the wide variety of usage. So far (> 1 day), none affect me.

Over a thousand posts in that thread now.

I've only counted six bugs that would cause me to regret installing the 2.1 leak. But there are many more than that being dealt with.

Even if there were no bugs at all I would still be waiting for the official release, though; it's about getting what's intended for the device rather than what's being bandied around the device community, to me.

For some reason this whole thing reminds me of a fellow I knew years ago who worked for a large plant in L.A. which manufactured hydraulic parts for helicopters for the Defense Department. He'd bring home various items from time to time which he'd rig into his own hybrid craft. The parts nearly always worked fine for a while but would fail here and there causing the machine to not start, leak fuel or other annoyances; nothing real serious or fatal.

I finally caved. I was trying to wait, because I am a total non-techie. This is my first smartphone and I am in love with it. I installed 2.1 this morning figuring the worst case scenario being I turn it into an expensive paperweight: then I send it back to Verizon. Second worst case scenario, I have to figure out how to manually update it if it doesn't take the OTA pushes. And for that situation, I have all you fabulous forum people to help me.

This forum has been invaluable to me. I had no idea of all the things the Eris is capable of when I bought it. I had just spent 3 years in Germany using a prepaid and wanted the best of the best. And I got it :)

I am loving 2.1 and can't wait to use GoogleNav. Google Goggles has been a fun distraction at work.

Patience is not my virtue...and I'm glad. 2.1 seems to be fine for the average user.

There are a lot of helpful people around the forums. Those who have installed the leak are all over the place spotting questions and fixes about this and that with 2.1.

Have fun, that's the bottom line with all this.

Yes, we all know there are bugs in what is essentially a 2.1 Beta.

How many pages existed on this forum of people having issues with 1.5 before the leak was released. As there are 102 pages of posts as I type this, I going to guess at least 90....

Every OS has bugs. Every update to remove those bugs will just identify more bugs. And, as my job proves to me on a daily basis, a lot of those bugs are EBKAC

I couldn't wait, so I updated. Honestly, no regrets. All 25 of my apps downloaded without issue. My FB contacts synced. I only had to log into Google twice, and now it recognizes me on reboot. I looked at that as a security feature anyway.

The only issue I have seen is the signal indicator is not accurate, and my strength seems to bounce around (when i go check the network settings - dbm). No functionality loss so far though. I'm just am hoping that my battery doesn't take a hit.

Other than that, the phone has blazing speed and no lag! I think this in itself should improve battery life. Everything loads so quickly!
