Leaked 2.1 or Waiting for OTA?

One thing I've done is look at the issues people have posted about here and another forum with their Erises before the leak was installed.

I've also tried to recall what issues I had with mine when I first got it.

I've found that the higher percentage of concerns had to do with unfamiliarity with the device, not true bugs. True bugs seem to be reports of lag in typing and moving from app to app, which I have not experienced. There were a few others having to do with syncing and battery life, again, which I have not experienced.

Most of the Eris complaints seem to be about features the user sees in other devices not found on the 1.5 version of Eris, so the root thread grew as well as the ones anticipating the OTA.

The only issue I have seen is the signal indicator is not accurate, and my strength seems to bounce around (when i go check the network settings - dbm). No functionality loss so far though. I'm just am hoping that my battery doesn't take a hit.

One of the first things I remember reading about the Eris was that the signal and battery meters were not accurate.

Yeah, it seemed that one of the OTA updates patched that problem for 1.5. With flashing the 2.1, it reoccurred. Not a problem as long as my battery holds up!

edit: Oh yeah, I'm really liking the responsiveness of the 4 menu buttons at the bottom of the screen. They work on first touch now - the lag is gone! I think a lot of it has to do with being able to shut off haptic feedback (just like with the keyboard).

I'll bet this poll would be different if taken today. I've seen a lot of people take the plunge to 2.1, including me, the past few days.

I'm glad I don't have any regrets so far.

Well I'm back......

from my suspension. Anything new? I'm still waiting for the OTA update...even though it is getting difficult to do so and not just hit the leak.

Welcome back.

The bugs thread for the leak has been busy. ;)

Finally took the plunge today and installed 2.1.

Wow! I love this phone even more than before. Everything works flawlessly. I really like the subtle enhancements/tweaks. Gmail is better than ever, and bluetooth now transfers my complete phone book to the car.

No bugs so far.

If you could only go back like 5 minutes in time...

They think they found root, for 1.5 ONLY.

1.5 > Rooted 2.1

NOT

Leaked 2.1 > Rooted 2.1

....

I hope for all your sake, they figure it out.

I am dying for root, and can't wait. Good thing my gf doesn't really need it!

Anyone who hasn't moved to 2.1 yet but wants root, my advice is

DO NOT GO TO 2.1! Root may be here!

The Offical Root is HERE FINALLY THREAD - xda-developers

Check out the thread.

what do you mean that bluetooth transfers your phonebook to your car? Please elaborate... I have uconnect in my Jeep, is this the same kind of thing you have in your car?

Check out the thread.

1. Some people don't care to root their phone. The only reason I wanted root was to speed up my phone by moving apps to the sd card. 2.1 is plenty fast.

2. I haven't heard of anyone bricking their phone by flashing 2.1. Just wait until people start doing it with root. It's a different ballgame that will void your warranty.

3. Root for 2.1 is already being worked on, so those that want it, will have it in the future anyway.

1. which is why I said, exactly, "Anyone who hasn't moved to 2.1 yet but wants root, my advice is..."

2. You can typically go backward from Root. Assuming that, like just about any other rooted phone, you can with the Eris, that's a risk that people who WANT root are willing to take. Once again, "who wants root", not "everyone", like I posted.

3. I hope that Root for 2.1 happens, and soon. There's never a guarantee. But I hope that it comes. I'd love to root the 2.1 Eris in my household as well as my own. I never tried to say that it wasn't being worked on, or won't be found.

I was posting this so that anyone reading this thread, getting this far in the thread (as someone did a half hour ago) was thinking of 2.1, and has waited THIS long to go leaked 2.1, to caution them in case they were waiting for Root, and wanted that as well.

That is all.

The Bluetooth stack in 1.5was pretty basic. Phone book would not transfer to Mercedes or Subaru bluetooth. After installing 2.1,both transfer phonebook perfectly. I don't believe that Uconnect supports this, however

Verizon has until May 1st to get the OTA version to me, otherwise I have the leaked version for my Eris after May 1.

Well, that's in Q2 and the indications in official announcements have been "before the end of Q1."

They've got about two weeks.

Well that sucks! But thanks.

What would "root" enable the Eris to do? Sorry I'm kinda a Technology noob. And I'm sorry if some of my posts were "racist", "mean", or otherwise "insensitive".....oops there is that sarcasm drip again.

Thanks....I posted and then thought DeeDeeDee...that is probly one of those already been asked a gazillion times questions.

I've been following this thread and the "Eris to 2.x" thread for some time now. It's funny that ever since the leak kinda leaked,.....these threads have been pretty quiet. I've also been reading how some of you have been impatient with the official version to be released, and have jumped ship and installed the leaked version. I'm glad that you all are pretty much satisfied with the upgrade, but I am still holding out for the official version. "Good things come to those that wait" is what I've been telling myself. I've also kinda convinced myself that the official update will not happen in March, and have prepared to wait a little longer, though I am optimistic that when it does come, it will be good to go!
