Leaked 2.1 or Waiting for OTA?

Leaked 2.1 or Waiting for OTA?

I had issues then reflashed. Only this time I uninstalled all my downloaded apps. Then I manually deleted all the folders that remained after the uninstalls. I then formatted my SD card. The only issue I am having is the gmail thing. Everything else seems to work perfectly now. Been strong for a few days now.

I was waiting... but took the plung which wasn't much of a different. If you like a slower phone and need to have HTC's battery app, don't update but if you want the same phone with a little power boost. Don't waste time reading these threads just do it

I'm still gonna wait... the complaints people ARE having with 2.1 seem pretty serious to me, including (if memory serves):

- Trouble making calls 50% of the time
- Gmail not viewing attached pictures at a glance
- Signal bars messed up/less signal strength
- Less battery life

EDIT: Not to mention the browser doesn't work... that's kind of a serious one... can't believe I missed that

3 of those 4 problems sound like fatal downgrades to me, and issues that they're no doubt aware of and fixing before the OTA release (I have to assume they have at least one guy who's job it is to read the issues people report about the leaked one).

I would be happy if it was this week, but I guess we'll see. I'll probably be upset enough if April 1st swings around without OTA, that I'll take the plunge too.

running 2.1. its so fast and the navigator app is awesome! Love the gps turn by turn. Market is awesome. The battery life seems about the same. The phone is considerable faster now. No lag anymore. Browser seems faster. wish i had the live wallpaper and google earth.

I'll bet this poll would be different if taken today. I've seen a lot of people take the plunge to 2.1, including me, the past few days.

I'm sure you're right. In a sense it is a dynamic question because those refusing the leak could change their mind at any time, and I'm sure many have, as you say.

I was thinking of constructing another poll along the lines of, "Only of those who voted 1.5 in the old poll, have you changed your mind and installed the leaked 2.1?"

What?? You're kidding, right? #1 would be disaster if correct. Trouble making calls 50% of the time? I'd throw my phone into a wall.

#2 Not in my case. Too many pictures on gmail for me.
#3 Correct
#4 The absolute reverse. Some have said no difference but less? My battery, just for the sake of this thread, is probably about twice as efficient.

Edit: Browser.. Never had an issue with 1.5 or 2.1. Where did you get that one from?

But your point about not upgrading is valid because it's your phone. But the reasons are a little out of kilt.

Well I selected that I was going to wait. I gave in and am glad I did. The wifes phone however is going to wait. She doesn't want to redo everything.

- I have no problems with calls
- I haven't run into a problem with my Gmail yet (except for signing in on reboot).
- The signal indicator is definitely messed up, but if you check the network signal strength in settings, the phone is receiving fine.
- My battery life has become slightly better. I think that's due to the fact that the apps open faster & more efficiently. There's virtually no time to load apps.
- My browser works fine. In fact, I downloaded Xscope and it's even better! Xscope loads so fast, that I think that helps improve battery life as well.

I remain strong and am still waiting on OTA... I have to; I have this uncanny ability to completely destroy any electronic device with my touch alone. So, while I have no fear of the impending Robo-Apocalypse (as it may turn out my ability is Mankind's last hope) I do have to wait for an official release so when everything goes kaput on my phone I can take it to the store worry-free and await the Verizon rep there mouthing the word's, "...well, this just doesn't make any sense at all... impossible!"
However, once upgraded, I will probably lose all resolve and root it the first chance I get.

Just to clarify: I wasn't trying to say that EVERY person who upgraded to the leaked 2.1 had those issues I mentioned earlier, I was just listing some of the reports I had seen here from individual people...

I guess from where I'm coming from, if I had any ONE of those things happen to my phone, I wouldn't find it acceptable. I want a phone that makes calls, I want a web browser that browses, I want Gmail that views pictures.

Obviously not everyone is going to have the same experience, I'm just saying I wouldn't want to have even one of these things happen, and be stuck not being able to re-install 1.5, or perhaps even the 2.1 OTA (since nobody knows what the OTA will and won't upgrade from)...

No argument there. The main reason I upgraded was because my battery sucked balls on 1.5. The added benefits I found were the increased speed of everything app wise and being able to hang up the phone with the end call button. But OTA should be here soon and these threads will go away.

The Bluetooth stack in 1.5was pretty basic. Phone book would not transfer to Mercedes or Subaru bluetooth. After installing 2.1,both transfer phonebook perfectly. I don't believe that Uconnect supports this, however

Is there a Bluetooth file transfer option on the Eris? I was just playing around with the included "people" app and didn't see a way to send contacts through BT, but my new 2010 Prius also has the ability to store my phone book. Any help appreciated!

The geeks, drunks and pool-shooting bikers haven't shown up yet.

Vampires, etc. :D

Lol.

I think for those of us who use their Eris (NO PLURAL!!!!) to make calls, occasional e-mail, calendar and some apps, 1.5 does the job well.
Of course I want Navi, but I don't play to travel at the moment, so I wait.

fify :D

Anyway, somebody handed me their Motorola Devour (weirdest name yet for a phone, imo) last night. I loved the solid feel to the keyboard compared to the Droids I've handled.

But the Eris still wins, same as it did the day I first played around with it and other devices.

The coming update for those of us with Eroonie does not even seem needed by me, but I will likely welcome some of the new functionality I've seen reported around.

Smart.

And, smart as it is, I dare say I am glad there are many who are not doing that and have instead installed this 2.1 leak, otherwise the mentioned issues would be hidden from our view.

Frisco, let's just admit it we are chicken:p

I'd admit it if that were the case. ;)

But it's a bit as if somebody were to tell me that their wife got a make-over and now she's better than ever, etc. Fine. I'm happy for you both. However my wife needs no make-over.

ok i just took the plunge and am uploading to 2.1. my concerns thus far are this, iti downloaded from the op site mega and i thought it had a feb date on it. if i downloaded the olf leak which i dont want, can i can still down loade the new one and write (flash over it correct? i thought the new 2.1 had a march date? im nervous as you know what. lol

I just updated mine to 2.1 yesterday with the latest leak. I haven't noticed any groundbreaking improvements, but lots of little subtle ones. Although, I really haven't spent much time getting it set up as I want it yet, and have only really checked to see if new stuff works. I'm happy with it, and despite a bit of nervousness before the update, it went very smooth.

Every Friday for the last 4 weeks I've _pretended_ to install a newly leaked image. The placebo effect is good for a 3 day rush ;)
