Leaked 5.7.893 Full update (.886 --> .893)

Thanks to everyone here who contributed, especially John, I am forever rooted, at 5.7.893 with the latest and greatest Th3oryRom d3blurred and debloated, and perfectly content with my Bionic. I think I will take a brief sabbatical from rooting and romming, and try to make amends with my family whom I have neglected while pursuing my obsession with my smart phone. I'll be lurking all the while. Thanks again and to the developers, you guys are awesome and I am proud to have donated for your products and services as I will continue to do.

It was missing the final line of code that was added by FOR3V3R ROOT:
chmod 4755 /system/app/Superuser.apk
I added that entry, but then went and looked in /system/app and superuser.apk is not there.
Should it be???
I still have root since I can edit the mount_exte.sh file and the bootstrapper works as well.

i read somewhere on XDA or Rootzwiki (don'r remember) that the missing codes are fine. They are there initially before the forever root to prevent to keep your root after OTA but after that you're fine. At least that's what I remember reading...i dont remember where the post is...I read this prior to doing the OTA updates on my phone.

I got a level 2 tech for vzw and he can't figure it out, he tried resetting my phone a few different ways with my battery pulled and he came up with nothing, he said he would work on it some more and that was 7 hours ago.

I am hoping that reflashing 5.7.893 after a reset to 886 will do the trick, wont know until I can get home and try it.

So it didn't do the trick. Still have the same issue, if the phone is on 3g the icon stays white, no data, no data transfer, nothing.

If it goes to 4g it goes white then right to blue, data works like a charm, same with wifi, it works great.

Sometimes if its on wifi I can get the 3g icon to go blue, then if I turn of wifi the 3g icon goes white again.

I have read that it may be the sim card causing this. So I will try a new one tomorrow. If not, time for a new phone.

Also note that this didnt start happening to til the morning after i updated to 5.7.893, so I dont think its the radio.
 
Still wondering if someone can tell me how to undo this update if it becomes necessary somewhere in the future.

not a big deal - since it was probably moved from that location, when executing the file it the statement returns an error it probably just pulls the statement from the file.

You have to revert to 5.5.886 and then appl the FULL 5.7.893. The incremental way breaks Webtop.

Ok, stupid question time.....

(great.. a stupid question for my first post on this forum *sighs*)

I'm FULLY stock. No root, no mods of ANY kind.
Do I still need to go through the first part of the instructions to flash back to stock or can I just go to step 2 and boot straight into recovery and proceed?

if you are fully stock and never messed with your phone, You can simply apply the 5.7.893 update right on top of what you have now, nothing else will be required as long as you want to remain stock and unrooted.

And the only stupid questions are the ones that don't get asked (or that my ex asked me :D)

I'll apply the update in the morning.. battery is down to 20% so best if I wait for it to charge before I hit this update.

Hello, I successfully updated to 5.7.893. The camera app seams to focus faster which is nice, but the camcorder app is another story for me. The camcorder app focuses just fine when you're NOT recording, but once I press the red button to record video it does not adjust it's focus at ALL, and the second I hit the red button again to stop recording, focusing resumes as normal. This is SO FRUSTRATING as everything else seams better. Even my headphone whine is gone. If anyone has a fix or suggestion I would appreciate it
 
To clarify something, there is no 5.7.894 for the Bionic, only for the D3 right? Seeing mixed messages on a couple of other forums that I think are misinformation based on what I've read...

There is... But it appears that it does nothing other then plug the known vulnerabilities that have allowed root access. DO NOT INSTALL 5.7.894 at this time!
 
Just wanted to provide an update on the update.
I'm running unrooted, applied the update late Wednesday evening.
It took three reboots for the phone to come back to 100%.
The first took a long time to load data (or maybe it didn't even load, I can't remember).
The second reboot the data came up and the 3g connection quickly turned blue, but the screen brightness was set at the minimums and couldn't be adjusted.
The third reboot was a charm.
Last night I rebooted the phone just to see what would and wouldn't happen. Everything went fine, with no problems at all.
I've had no data losses since the update.
I had an occasion to use the camera today and it does seem to focus faster and easier. I used it to take a picture of a single color beige carpet and was surprised at how well it focused. I think my Canon Rebel XTi digital SLR would have had more trouble focusing the same object.
All of my apps seem to be working fine.
Battery life appears to be somewhat improved.
So for me, this leaked update is all good so far. I was just using the phone and thought to myself how much happier I am now with the data issues appear to be gone. I'm also over a week since my last BSOD. I did take out, wipe the contacts and reinstall my SIM card so I don't know if that was the problem or not.
A big Thank You to everyone who worked on this and especially John for his patience with all of us who had questions. And thanks so much for answering my question regarding removing the update.
Keep up the good work.
 
If I update using stock recovery, will I be restored back to a factory reset or will all of my data, apps, settings etc still be in place?

If you're coming from a fully stock or even rooted stock rom with no frozen apps then all your data and settings should remain untouched.

Thanks. Updated to 5.7.893 and so far so good! I was having major issues with GPS, so far it works like a dream. I am getting connected within a few seconds even when inside the house. Camera seems better, data needs to be tested will report back. Am charging so will also report on battery life although I have an extended battery and juice defender so I have zero issues with battery life.

    • Use Power button to select
    • Select file

For users who have previously applied any update and now the reversion to 5.5.886 blocks the full 5.7.893 update, and users for whom the above did not work:

  1. Depending upon which update you have installed, pick the next increment from the files below and update via stock recovery
  2. Now, go to the top and follow the procedure above titled For stock users on 5.5.886 with no partition modifications (Webtop, etc) at all:

Turns out, three is a caveat here - obviously only for rooted users who have messed around with the other partitions (like Webtop) on their phone:

Read this: xda-developers - View Single Post - Easily upgrade to 5.7.893, keep root AND Webtop now :)

So, if you've customized your Webtop partition (or any other partition for that matter) then it's possible that your update will not take, and you'll need to revert fully to stock before before attempting the updates.

Confused on Step one.. I have Bionic, I have rooted it. do I need to UNroot in order to apply the update? When I rooted it originally I have not done anything else to it. SO do I still need to do something in Step 1?
 
Reading a bit more, it looks like I need to use option #3 (4ever root a rooted device) for Step 1 and then apply step 2..

Is that correct?
 
all finished with the process and I think I did it right. I have 5.7.893 and I have webtop so that should be it. It didn't take the first time for some reason so I had to go through each update, but I now am rooted and have .893. Just in time for .894.
 
only things im noticing is:
-little better battery life on my extended battery
-camera focuses faster
-when you plug into a computer it bring up 2 different drives now, one for internal storage and one for external sd card storage. thats nice.
