Leaked 5.7.893 Full update (.886 --> .893)

I created an account on the forum in order to plead for help. I followed the #2. step in the original post, i.e. for purely stock phones. Loaded up the Blur_Version.5.5.886.XT875.Verizon.en.US.zip and did the upgrade. All seemed to go well, but then my phone ended up in a reboot loop. As I said, I created this account and started to request help. Before I posted, I figured I'd better try the usual... I yanked the battery, pulled the sd and sim card, replaced, and then started back up. Reboot loop gone.

Just thought I'd share in case anyone else runs into such.

Welcome to the forums! We hope you stick around. :)

I have a completely stock Bionic, no mods.

I downloaded the ZIP file that's indicated in the first post. I moved it to the /mnt/sdcard-ext. I can see the file at this location, it's still zipped. 5.5.886.xt875.

I've gone through the instructions, and there's no option to update from ZIP. There is an option to update from SCcard, which I selected but the install errored out.

I'm not an experienced Droid user, but a longtime Blackberry user. The left part of my brain says, "Leave it alone, wait for the Verizon update, you'll putz it up if you keep dinking with it". The right side of my brain says, "you can do it Luke, see, it's simple, what could go wrong".

Any help would be appreciated. I just don't want to gut my phone. Thanks.

what did the error say? did you download the file using a computer or your phone? you might want to try downloading it again in case the original file is corrupt.

Reboot your phone and use the Files app to verify the file is in SDCard, not internal storage.

If the file is in the correct location, it should give the opportunity to attempt the update, and return an error message. The user is stating that there is no attempt to even update, that install 'button' is non functional.

Very first post. The first link is to revert your phone to stock.

I must have gotten lucky with my Bionic. Sorry to hear that!

Confused on Step one.. I have a rooted Bionic, do I need to UNroot in order to apply the update? When I rooted it originally I have not done anything else to it. SO do I still need to do something in Step 1?

Reading a bit more, it looks like I need to use option #3 (4ever root a rooted device) for Step 1 and then apply step 2..

Is that correct?

still looking for help with this

Jeff,

In order to do this, since you're rooted, use the tool to just simply make your phone 43v3r rooted, and then you can apply the full update - no need to revert to full stock.

However, if you've frozen any apps, unfreeze them all and reboot first.

Nothing frozen

but have noticed my phone eating the battery a tad more so I was thinking this might help.

I really think it is 3dGallery that is eating the battery when it synce to Picasa albums...

Need to find a different program for that I think

Mine doesn't. You can disable the online gallery part though.

Look at the battery videos that are stickied at the top of this forum - there are 6 of them - watch them all

OK, I checked with the Files application and the file is on the SDcard.

I went through the boot process and I'm at the screen with the yellow triangle. The options are;

reboot system now
apply update from SD card
wipe data, factory reset
wipe cache partition.

There's no "install from Zip" option.

If I try to install from SD card, I then select the Blur_Version .5.5... file I get a E:\signature verification failed, Install aborted.

Thanks.

OK, I went into the phone and deleted the update files that I had downloaded earlier, I went to this post and downloaded the update file right to the phone, and moved it to the SD-Ext. Went through the process and selected the "update from SD card", selected the freshly downloaded file, and it updated without issues.

Thanks for the help.... :)

I think I am having more data drop issues now on .893 than I did when I was on previous.

How do I get my phone back to stock?

Would like to see if I notice any difference.

I hate to say it, but the leaked OTA's aren't going to fix the data drop issues - mainly, I believe anyway, b/c I think it's something on Verizon's end combined with the phone.

Follow the second part to revert to stock. However,

This is, sadly, true. I have no 4G service here but am rock solid on 3G. So far, Atlanta, Augusta, Savannah and Athens (Georgia) have been upgraded to 4G. I'm waiting for middle GA - and it will probably be another 2 years lol.

Yeah but the battery drain just started within the last few days..

it must be an app on the phone.. just need to try and determine which one it is

Yeah for me the 1st File doesn't work. But I just installed the 2nd individual file and it is working, going to move onto the 3rd file here shortly to update to 5.7.893 and hopefully all goes well, then back to Liberty for me :)

- Edit: Did all that, re-flashed Liberty, and bam rite back to 5.5.886XT875 - FML

Guess I can't have the best of both worlds.... waste of time haha

The update solved my data drop issues, so I believe it depends on your phone. Before the update, when my phone would wake up the data would not come on unless I toggled airplane mode. In low signal areas, that didn't even help get my signal back. It has been a couple of weeks since I updated and I have not lost my data signal yet. Better battery life too.

The Liberty ROM dev has stated (I believe) that he does not make ROMs based on leaked OTA update, so his ROMs are based on the old 5.5.886 system software.

Not to worry, though, as the kernel and baseband (firmware) update are still in place.

Same here but in my home area only.. I went to S Cali last week (non 4g) and it was losing data left and right. But if it works at my house i am all good in the hood.. Also the BSOD is gone. And my battery life has jumped up at least 2 hours. So for me i am a happy camper.
