Leaker has achieved root!

I've tried having it out, and putting it in at random times between vol up and recovery mode happening, in and out over and over while it's in recovery, letting it just sit there...

There must be more to it, or he just got some fluke (which I doubt), or (hate to say it) a hoax...

Well he is a senior member on XDA so I think that gives him some credibility so I'm calling it a fluke. Hope someone makes some progress today.

Ah well.

I suppose it's sweet irony.

First Eris had leak, and the gps unit died so returned. 3 days after 1.49 refurb arrived had audio bug. TODAY I got a 1.49 refurb that has a loose power connector so goes left trackball, and the manager at verizon gave me his card and said once next refurb comes if I'm not satisfied he'll give me an upgrade.

Either gonna stick the eris for a bit if it ends up working, or go Droid X in 3 weeks (if I can lay hands on one) but one way or the other I suppose I'll end up with root. Just be a lot more fulfilling to have it on the Eris.

You got me to waste 4 hours on this but I've got to get some sleep. I never even get an offline device which almost everyone in the slide thread is getting even if they can't get any farther. Will mess with it more later.

Well good luck everyone!
i hope to check back later and see some new rooters. Gotta keep the community alive!

Well, the slide thread is for the slide, not the eris.

The one on XDA is the eris one, and nobody except the OP has gotten it to work.

Including me.

Bedtime. It's on all of you to have this working by the time I wake up. Hop to. :P

I understand everything but the loop part of the instructions, can anyone help? btw I have a mac so it might be different?

"Senior Member" ? Hah... That's based on post counts, nothing else. No one has been able to do the same. The developers over at XDA tried this method 1-2 weeks ago and have seemingly moved on as they had no luck. People will need proof. Not sure what a video will show at this point unless he taped the process. He really can't recreate the process now.

Video posted now.... Shows a phone with 1.49 S-On bootloader version. Screen goes blank. Comes back with phone showing Amon's Recovery screen.

I can understand editing chunks of "nothing" out to save time and make video shorter, but that missing section makes me a skeptic.

So for me to try this, will I need the ROM from there, or the original leak v3?

If you're already on the 2.1v3 leak, this ROM is the same. To my knowledge it's easier because it's a utility run on a PC. Some people have chosen to use the RUU, but it's basically just hard resetting your phone if you have the v3 leak.

Alright, I was just wondering because on the link/forum post, it said that it might change the HBOOT.

Ugh, Idk, Im confusing myself D:

Maybe this will help. You can check your HBOOT version by powering off your phone, and then powering it back on holding both the send and the power/end keys.

I want to clarify that: If you're already on a leak, the RUU does not change your bootloader. However, if you were to use this with HBOOT 1.46 or 1.47 S-ON (Android 1.5 or 2.1OTA) or HBOOT 1.49 S-OFF (root), it would upgrade your HBOOT to 1.49 S-ON, which can't be rooted. Hence, don't use this unless you're already on a leak.
