It really depends on what you want to do. The link above has a lot of useful information.
unfortunately i have a hard time falling asleep :/
I think the first thing would be, getting Linux installed. You can operate dev tools easier on it
If windoze runs on it, Linux will run better. If windoze does not run on it, Linux probably will. If you think it's broken, Linux will probably fix itI have this old Dell desktop upstairs. I wonder if it would be suitable to flash Linux on it. The things kind of a dinosaur though lol. Think it's about 13 or 14 years old. Works though... I did put boot animation factory on my laptop I'll be checking that out when I get a chance.
The computer runs decent for the age. Definitely worth a try. When I get a chance I'm going to check out how to flash Linux on an old Windows PC . I'm going to practice on this old LG optimus q if it works.
I am running Ubuntu 14.04 and my machine has never been faster. As of 14.04, they focused heavily on performance since it is now running on mobile devices. Honestly you just need to try a bunch of them and settle in with the one that works the best for you and your machine.Ubuntu and mint are a little heavy for an older unit. I would suggest either lubuntu ( I think that's the lxde variant) or bohdi ( Ubuntu variant with E19). I personally run the testing branch of Debian with razor qt, but that take a little more time to set up
On a side note. You could always run Linux inside a virtual machine on your primary computer.
There are many Linux distributions available. I recommend Ubuntu or Mint for ease of use and hassle free setup. Both come as live disks meaning you can burn them to a dvd and boot your computer to it (without installing) to see if you like it.
Oh is it like the cwm flashable CD?. I did that on the laptop once I figured out how to take off the security check from the bios settings.
Oh crap! Please help me Super. I just bought this new laptop, (windoze 8.1 I f_ cking hate). Can I put Linux on this? and will it run my cabinetry software? PLEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEZE help me get rid of this Microsoft nightmare!

If you like theme and mod work, go to Hellzdroid' $ page on XDA and get his OS... everything you need is in it... its Ubuntu
If you want to build, I googled it and Superr'$ name popped up on a build box
I'm all fired up and curious now.... Crap I need some DVRs. I never could figure out the USB boot up procedure for some reason. I know my laptop is capable of USB boot but the Dell desktop is not.
