Root Learn to build and mod android for the warplte. Q&A thread

I've downloaded and installed Ubuntu Live, and it changed the boot, It asks to choose windows or Ubuntu, I choose Ubuntu, and I get this page that says it's missing a file. What did I do wrong or not do? I have the (extracted) iso dvd in the dvd drive while booting, still nothing. I've tried it with, and without the dvd.
Missing this file: \ubuntu\winboot\winbildr.mbr

did you install easybcd on the windows side to see if it helps in finding the file for boot?

I really don't know how to use it. I've save the YouTube. Last thing I wanna do is F up my laptop. video on how to use easybcd, but i'm just tired right now. Long day. see........ I just uninstalled it. I'll try again this weekend.
Why is it that something that seems so easy to install, is kicking my ass today?

it seems like maybe its installed but for some reason it doesnt know where it is maybe so thought easybcd can help point it to where it needs to boot from for ubuntu to run

I have never used easybcd or the like. Grub takes care of the dual boot if you have windows installed when you install Ubuntu. Super easy with no extra apps or complications.

well its giving him an error Missing this file: \ubuntu\winboot\winbildr.mbr

do you have any other suggestion to help him fix the error

Was it installed inside of windows or from the booted live cd? Maybe the wubi installer? winboot is not part of a real Ubuntu install.

edit: just found this link about it. Wubi is the issue
windows 7 - "/ubuntu/winboot/wubildr.mbr" error - Ask Ubuntu

I installed it from windows side.
Edit: Okay I hit something in easybcd, now it gives me 3 boot options, win 8.1, and neolinux, neolinux or what ever it is. What can I do to undo this, until I get this thing right?
Edit: I found the boot repair disk iso. Jeeeeezus!

you can just go into the options that list your boot menu options and delete the entries for neolinux

I've been checking in on the progress. I haven't had a chance to do squat yet. One of my goals when I get a Linux machine set up is to figure out how to get those stock boost contacts out of there :D

On a side note. Do you guys also see that date glitch in the forum?

Well, this laptop, and Windows 8.1 have really put the screws to me as far as trying to install Ubuntu. I'm just gonna have to take it to somebody who knows how to handle this. I've read everything and tried most of it, but no luck.

Windoze has nothing to do with installing Ubuntu. Boot to an Ubuntu live dvd or usb, install it alongside windoze, done ;)

Well I might as well ask since you are on the subject SuperR...I "had" Window 8.1 dual boot with linux mint 16.I had to boot to Windows then shift restart to get to boot menu so that I can boot to linux.Long story short, tried to configure boot sequence with BCD,corrupt windows boot file(cylinders number do not match ) plus Win7 show in my boot setup.Been stuck about a month.Grub could not fix..have not figure out how to use test disk in linux..think I need win8 iso so that I can boot to windows 8 again.Your input would be greatly appreciated.

I haven't used windows in a very long time, but this should work.

Your windows 8 DVD should give you the option to repair the windows installation. Run that to fix windows. This will over write grub, so you will have to reinstall grub after your done

you could go "find" a windows 8/8.1 whichever you have installation disk and use it to get into recovery options to use the command prompt which you can use to fix the MBR which should let you boot into windows again

It gives me 4 options:
Win 8.1
Neolinux (or what ever Neo something or other is)
Neolinux
Win7.
I scroll it up to win 8.1, like if I was in safemode or something, and it will go to windows.
I've looked at the site Super posted 10 easy steps........... nope, not gonna try it.
I hate win 8, I hate this laptop. I just wanted to try out Ubuntu, now I got a pile 'o shit on my hands, and I've got to pay somebody to clean this mess up. I didn't think it would have been this difficult.

I know, some of you guys are laughing saying, (Frigging idiots!). I just don't want to f-_k up a brand ew laptop. I have restore disks, and all that, (I ain't that dumb, dehr!). bUT i DON'T WANT TO MUCK UP WHAT i CAN'T AFFORD TO HAVE FIXED HERE IMMEDIATELY EITHER! G-damned small ass keyboard! sorry

It is super easy if you just install through the Ubuntu installer instead of trying to install through windoze. Boot to Ubuntu live, install alongside windoze, done. This will be the last time I mention this as you all seem to have your own ideas about how to install it ;)

Sorry your having so much trouble. If you just want to play around with Ubuntu run it in virtual box inside windows. It won't be as snappy as a direct install, bit it should work fine for small mods.

If you have your restore DVDs you should be able to fix your windows installation

Oh , I'll get it. My neighbor is a computer techie. I just gotta be patient. I wanna play with it, and may use it as a daily driver on my PC> I just have to keep Windoze for my cabinet software. Thank all of you guys for trying to help me out though. When she does it, I'll be there and see what I was or wasn't doing. :D
