Help LED notification light not working?

Having the same problem here... they worked for a day then nothing. I finally brought it back to the sprint store they told me it was probably a conflict with a app/apps I downloaded . to correct it they would have to "wipe" the phone. Before I did that I wanted to at least check with Samsung support directly thinking they might know exaclty what the conflict was. I emailed them and they promptly wrote back and told me it would be best to call in. I called and basically they were no help at all other then telling me to send in the phone they would take 2-3 days to fix it and Id get it back about 5 days after that.. Right- a week or more with NO phone. I then went back to sprint and let them wipe the phone. When i picked it up the lights were working fine. Worked for messages worked when i plugged in the charger. I did not load anything back on the phone except for my email accounts. within two hours the lights stopped working again... Its frustrating as hell.. so much for app conflict. Hopefully Samsung will correct this with a software update but I'm not sure due to the fact that the support desk didnt seem to think that this was more than an isolated incident. they told me they hadnt had any other calls about it. we'll see...

I have the same problem. LED blinks a few times then stops. Turn on screen, blinks a few more times, stops. Any news?

Thanks.

just found out the only way the led blinks is if the lcd is off...turned of my pop up lcd on setting and it works like a champ.
I have looked at all my settings and cannot find any setting to turn off a pop up lcd. What do you mean, where is that?

I think he means that the screen has to be off for the LED to blink at all.

For everyone who is having the 5-second-only blink issue, I found an app in the Android Market: Missed Reminders. You have to tweak the settings, but it's the only thing that I found to get the LED to blink continuously.

My LED settings: 600ms blink rate, 3s repeat rate.

I had downloaded that and another one and still nothing but 5 blinks and then it stops. I made sure the settings were 600ms blink rate and 3s on Notification Intervals (is that what you meant when you said repeat rate? Mine says notification Intervals.). Did you change any other settings at all? If you didn't, then that app does not work on Epics either.

Sorry to hear that. Missed Reminders is the only one that works for me. Prior to it, I only got the 5-blinks as well, and no missed call LED at all.

Silly stuff, but did you check "Start/Stop Service"? Maybe enable Autostart and reboot? Make sure "Enable SMS" is checked?

My settings have Blink LED checked, blink interval 600ms, color blue, notification interval 3s, repeats forever.

I'm using this in conjunction with Handcent's LED settings as well. Now I also get missed call LED.

Thank you Snovvman, I got it to work, I turned off the phone, then back on again and it started working! The only thing that is still not working is the light colors. I choose the blue light color also, but it's still red. Any idea on what I may be doing wrong to make the light blue instead of red? Thank you again for being so patient with me.:)

Hmmm... My blue LED works. Are you using Handcent as your SMS client? I have blue also set in Handcent, maybe that is why it works for me?

I gave the app a good rating in Android Market, because it restored for me a very important feature.

By the way, I'm curious if this drains your battery more than before. I haven't had enough time to observe that. I'm curious about your results.

I will try and observe the battery life after a couple days and come back to let you know if I can notice anything. But about this Handcent, sorry I'm so ignorant, but is that the Handcent SMS I see on the market. Did you installed that first? I'll install and see if that does it for me. Hopefully it wont matter if I install it after the Missed Reminder.

Yes, Handcent SMS. Much better than stock SMS client. Lots of configurable options. Thinking about it now, the stock SMS client DOES give the red LED. You can change that in Handcent. Make sure you turn off notification in the stock SMS so you don't get double notifications.

Maybe I should uninstall both apps and start over with the Handcent first like you did and then add the Missed Reminder because I still am not able to get the Blue light, only red. I've turned the stock SMS notification to off and made sure both the Handcent and Missed Reminder both have the blue light option choosen.

When you just had Handcent and had the light choosen blue, was it already blue before you added the Missed Reminder to make it also keep flashing?

I too have this all set up the way it was explained and I can only get the red LED to show no matter what colors I choose both in Missed Reminders and in Handcent...

Yes, before Missed Reminder I had Handcent set to blue, and was getting blue. Unlike many here, though, I am running a beta Froyo release 2.2.1, and my device is rooted. I did all this the first day I got the phone, so I can't say how it would have behaved with 2.1.

That could be the difference then...I'm running stock everything.

Yes, that has to be the problem, I've tried everything and still red. I also just have stock everything. But I am VERY happy to have at least the red LED flash all the time now instead for just 5 times. Thanks again for all your help.

This solved my problem! thank you!!

i wonder why the built in notifications is having so much trouble with this. oh well it works now. thanks!:p

I know this thread is old... not sure if anyone is still paying attention...:)

I have searched the forums multiple times (so sorry if solution is posted somewhere and I missed it) for a way to simply turn off the LED for any and all notifications. I just don't want it to blink at me!

I have a Samsung Epic.

I have looked in setting>display and can't find anything (don't have a setting category of Sound AND Display)

I would rather not download an app or hack my phone. Seems like a pretty simple and commonly used feature to control the LED.

I have to say the Epic is the MOST irritating phone I have ever owned! It doesn't even have spell check for f*cksake!!!!

Thanks for any and all help!

Not sure if it is the same with the Epic, but on the EVO it will not work if plugged in.

I'm trying to fix this at work and it was plugged in. I forgot the led for the notification is the same one as the amber charging light. So yes, you must be unplugged for the LED to work.

Hey guys! My Samsung Epic LED notification light doesn't work. It works when it's charging but it doesn't work when I get a notification like a text or call. Any help?

I confirmed with Sprint today. The GINGERBREAD.FC09 bug. They filed bug with Samsung/Google dev team. What is sad it took me 3 different phones to figure it out.

Filed claim with Assurion, got new device. First thing I did was to update from EL30 to FC09. MISTAKE. LED wasn't working. Called these jokers back same day and they sent me another phone.

This time i checked build version first.
LED was working with EI22
Updated to EL30 and tested again. Also LED was working
Updated to FC09 - LED was not working. Took another 2 hours to convince some monkey ass at Sprint that the issue was never my original phone. At least I got my $100 deductible back from insurance.

If anyone has anymore updates, please advise.

Update on 6/9/2012
So, I ended up downloading NoLed app from the Play Store. While this has NOT fixed the issue, the app actually does exactly this: notifies you of the even. In addition, you can customize it and it will display icon of the event(missed call, email, sms, or any custom app that you have, such as facebook). This gave me the opportunity to chill out and quick yelling.

On a separate note: Rooting your GINGERBREAD.FC09 WILL fix the issue. So, now I have flashing red led notification. If you want info on rooting, I used this link: How to Root the Samsung Epic 4G on FC09 - Latest - YouTube
