Root lesson learned!!!!

i am still a noob with rooting, but i do have the "basics" down. i chose to write this in the hopes that anyone else who decides to root DOES NOT make the same mistake.

basically, i needed to get another X due to some problems. got the new (refurb) in the mail and began the process of getting rid of all root related stuff in the old X and did a factory reset. deactivated the old and activated the new, without checking the "root" status of the old.

thanks to this forum, i decided to check the root status of the old. deactivated the new, reactivated the old ,and found that superuser was still present. after having to download maderstock (took two hours), re-installing the needed root related apps (bootstrap), i successfully got rid of all root from the old.

re-activated the new and the old one is shipped out.

MAJOR LESSON LEARNED..........PLEASE MAKE SURE TO HAVE THE STOCK ROM AVAILABLE. I DID NOT! IT IS VERY MUCH NEEDED. FACTORY RESETS WILL NOT GET RID OF SUPERUSER.

i now have the maderstock loaded on two computers and two sd cards...just in case.

i know that the majority of the experienced root guys preach the need in regards to sbf and maderstock related things, but i blame myself 100%. the excitement of just being able to root and flash custom roms got the best of me without taking the proper precautions.

once again....thanks guys.

Glad things worked out for you. You are now a far more experienced root user. :)

Same thing could've been accomplished via RSD Lite and the .340 full sbf file. ;)

Especially since you had already tried to unroot and got rid of Clockwork Mod Recovery and Bootstrapper. Rather than reinstalling those to get back CWM recovery, which is what you need to flash the maderstock zip file, since it can't be flashed from stock recovery.

Waste of time VZW doesn't check returned phones for Superuser or anything for that matter.

But you could have just deleted the SU apk, rebooted, done. That's what I did.
