Let's Be Honest About The Battery Life

You think Desire's battery life stinks? I have 3 phones that has much worse battery life than the Desire, the Charm and LG Shine Plus are a joke in battery life and my Blackberry Pearl is terrible and yes Blackberries are supposed to be king of battery life. These phones make the Desire look good in battery life, I can go a day with the Desire whereas with those 3 listed phones I mentioned can barely go 6 hours without recharging again (I have to charge twice a day sometimes).

The Pearls are complete POS phones.

Other Blackberrys, such as the Curves/Torch/Bold ETC... are much better overall (especially battery) but have horribly sloooooooooooooow browsers.

Then again if you wanna go with a phone that has amazing battery/browser speed then go with a Nokia e72. Which most Android wouldn't last 5 min with because of the small screen, lack of apps, and archaic UI...

3G is the biggest user. Want better battery life then turn it on as you need it (or use 2G only). Don't use highest brightness either. Also, wifi uses much LESS battery than 3G.

You can't compare between different phones, its hard to even compare between the same phone, because each person uses their phone differently.

For example, my girlfriend would get roughly 3x the amount of battery life that I would on the same htc hero.

Be careful when people talk about heavy and light use btw. One persons heavy use is anothers light use. No one can get more than a day on heavy use, it's impossible (on 3G at least). If they do, its not heavy use.

I haven't used advanced task killer in the last 48 hours.

I was meetings most of yesterday so wasn't dodging work and playing with my phone as I normally do so in an effort to be scientific, I got back to normal today and have continued not to task kill today and my battery is still running at 60%.

I've been surfing, phoning, texting, listening to music and we're still going strong. Be interesting to see where I am tonight

How long since it's been unplugged?

This is spot on in my experience.

I only switch on 3G when I need it which is probably less than an hour a day.

Yeah, after I used 2G (or whatever) more often my battery lasts MUCH longer. Also, is it really necessary at all to turn on 3G if all I do is update weather and facebook/twitter on mobile networks? I do my browsing and other heavy stuff when I have access to Wifi networks.

desire battery life sucks donkey balls. Im starting to hate my desire because the battery, internal memory and shitty camera. Prolly gonna switch this 1 to desire HD or struggle few months and then see whats up

The battery usually lasts a day for me with more or less heavy use, and camera is pretty good (took off the plastic cover), the trick is knowing how to use it I guess. But I agree on the internal memory part, I hate trying to install a good new app but it refuses to download until I clear some memory, and then I have to go through my list to remove some apps I don't use too much. Why the hell did they include so little internal memory?!

Update to 2.2 and shift apps to your SD card.

I do. There are still far too many that does not support it. Also, is it impossible for apps to support widgets if they are installed on the SD card? When I moved twicca to SD the widget option was gone, and I don't think I have a single app on my SD card which supports widgets.
