Help LG Ally problems, suggestions? what to do?

I need some help here, my wife got this phone not even a year ago and has had issues with it since day one. I have done so many factory resets on it and have a third replacement on its way. issues have ranged from phone keeps shutting off on it own, keyboard locking up,touch screen unresponsive, texting by itself. Just very frustrated:mad:. Verizon offered again to either replace the phone AGAIN, or switch it out for the Original Droid or a Blackberry Curve for about $250 and exchange of her LG. ARE YOU F'ING KIDDING ME? $250 for these phone that are almost 2-3 years old as a replacement. UNACCEPTABLE i would think. we pay over $150 a month for 2 phones, and have been with this company for over 15 years and this is what they"can do for us"?
anyone have any suggestions here /??:mad:

Try taking the plunge and rooting your device?

i have a droid x and rooted mine a long time ago... if these problems persist, once the phone is officially out of its 1 year manufacturer warranty, i think i will do this. isnt it alot harder on this phone as to the x ? there is no 1 click method is there? like z4root for example?

I also had a million issues with my ally, begining with the first update it took about 1 month after purchase. Prior to that it was a good phone! After...a nightmare. I replaced it twice and have done about 5 factory resets, and was about to add a ghost line in order to get a new phone. Instead, I rooted. BEST THING I EVER DID! granted its only been rooted for a couple of weeks, but I love its preformance now. Faster, smoother, and so far, no bugs. I may actually keep it for the rest of my contract!

Just rooting it wont clear anything up, it just opens up options to customize the phone. what else did you do to the phone after rooting it to make it stable? what was your rooting process?

Probably flashed Frunisher 1.0 or Velocity 1.1 Frunisher is my own creation. Velocity 1.1 is a bit newer but i help develop it now.

For root follow this guide: http://androidforums.com/ally-all-t...-3-2011-3-40-pm-est-now-easier-than-ever.html

But instead of using the LGMU downgrade which has been known to cause problems, use LGNPST to downgrade. Safer and easier. http://androidforums.com/ally-all-t...nate-v6-restore-method-updated-3-22-11-a.html

I ROOTED AND ROM'ED MY DROID X WITH LITTLE TO NO ISSUES, BUT THIS GAVE ME A HEADACHE JUST READING IT. WHY IS THIS SO INVOLVED? NO 1 CLICK METHOD LIKE Z4ROOT? WHY NOT?

this is to get fastboot access. Super One Click will root it in almost one click. then you will probably have issues getting the recovery to stick, then something as small as a bootloop can really screw you. also DONT use clockwork mod recovery. the guides above will put the latest amonra recovery and do away with rom manager also. they have had issue with the ally. but the guides posted above are tried and true and if you follow the directions you WILL get the desired result. they arent that complicated and if you are going to install a custom ROM id advise doing it the long way, IF you have access to fastboot you can use the FroyoLite method posted in the 2.2 Root guide and skip the downgrade. honestly the downloads will take longer than the entire process

Well, you've described your situation and asked what can you do. It really does boil down to this: either you accept the offer from Verizon and shell out more money for the other phones OR you take the time to go through the guide to fix the Ally so it will be a decent phone for the duration.

Yes, the process is more involved than just a one-click solution. But it resolves several issues by giving you root, a custom recovery and fastboot which are essential to allowing you to apply a custom ROM like Velocity 1.1 or Frunisher. Waiting until the 1 year warranty period won't gain you anything. This is a $99 phone and you will just keep having the same issues as you are having now by waiting.

Rooting and installing one of the 2 custom ROMs will turn this phone into the stable and useful little device it is capable of being. Almost all of us here experienced the same issues you have. We all expressed similar complaints over the "difficulty" of the root process and wished for an easier way. And for most of us, once we took the plunge and did it and then used Velocity 1.1 or Frunisher, we've NEVER regretted the decision.

Regrettably, there is no "Magic Wand" third option anyone can offer you. If there were, the geniuses on this forum would have posted it long ago. :)

GO FOR IT!!! You will be glad you did, and your wife will think you are a Superhero!

how did you root it? was it free & easy ?

cant change the system font, alt sms apps and such will allow you to change the font withing the app. but to do a full change you will need to root. rootinf is easyish. you can see the guides yourself, but if yoiu want to root its best you do some good reading before
