Root LG Esteem - End of Life?

Not 100% sure, but I just heard that the LG Esteem is going end of life.

I can't believe they are discontinuing a phone that I really like a lot. I'm guessing that it's because it's somewhat similar to the LG Connect, but I feel like they should keep the Esteem around for at least a year.

Can anyone confirm this?

Thoughts anyone?

Is this going to stop our devs from any further developments on the Esteem?

i dont think it will stop our devs... PG is working on CM7 and CM9.... they are both WIP. But im 99.9 percent sure that our devs will keep working on our phone til CM9 comes out.
 
besides metro didnt do any good to the esteem, except fix a reboot issue as far as i know. We all already knew that the esteem wont get ICS and im doubting the lg connect

what do you mean ZVD didnt work. as i recall people saying that it didnt work had flashed a rom from ZVC or ZVB. if never seen anyone saying that it just didnt flat out work. We are talking about the reboot issue right?
 
Lmao at this tittle end of life... I don't care what they do as long as my phone continue to work fine. i don't plan on upgrading no time soon i don't go gaga over phones like that. but i gotta admit i wanted the esteem baddddd lol

I meant had it not worked, like, if zvd wouldn't had fixed the issue then i would understand why it was discontinued. But since the fix actually worked then i dont think the esteem is being discontinued

I made a thread weeks ago saying this and everybody crawled my ass because of it. I was just repeating what Metro said. But noooooooo Fuzzy is crazy. lol :D

Honestly Metro flips phone like whoah so it doesn't surprise me. The Indulge is gone and it didn't last but what, less than 6 months. Seems like they would want to keep more than 4 4G phones at a time for sale. But hey, Metro is making bank so what do I know. ;)

Besides I'm Metro 4 life.
 
i hear t-mobile is offering $50 unlimited everything, is this true? Probably has something like Restrictions Apply and of course need credit.
 
Esteem is in fact being discontinued from LG an not on Metro PCSs end. Sorry, and also didnt want to,read through posts haha
 
Why does it matter if it's being discontinued? Devs are still going to bring out new stuff for it. Look at the Optimus M. The phone has been discontinued awhile now and there are still devs that contribute.


Contrary to what some people think there are a lot of people who actually keep a phone for more than six months. Some people actually keep them for more than a year(oh the shock).

I for one don't need the latest and greatest phone, to me it's futile to try and keep up with technology and it's a waste of money imo.


This is just my opinion.
 
Well, with them not selling it anymore we can't recieve new members on here that are new Esteem owners... not a big deal to me but this would really be the only downside to this TBH.

i saw that commercial too, but i have a feeling that theres tax on top of that and hidden fees and of course, the contract :mad:

It's not really "unlimted everything" and yes, there will be taxes and fees (probably around $8-10). The reason it isn't unlimited everything is because you only get 100MB of "4G" and edge speeds, but you get unlimited throttled data speeds after the 100 megs mark.

When they do slow down internet data speeds, they REALLY slow it down. It's not even edge speeds. They cap it at about 6 kbps. It made data on my phone unusable. Even something simple as maps, it would take over a minute for me to load the map and get directions. Even doing a google search takes a ridiculous amount of time. You can still check email and gtalk will be okay, but no streaming music, apps that need more than 6kbps, videos, etc. Facebook, mobile-version websites, downloading apps are a painfully slow. If they just bumped me down to edge from hspa+, I would've been okay with it, but if you're a user that uses data, you will NOT be happy with it at all. It's just way too slow.

I don't think the $50/month is 2 gigs but rather 100MB, also as I mentioned in my other post, it's not 2g speeds. I would've been content if that was the case, but it's about 6kbps as opposed to the typical 35kbps I would get on Edge/2G.

"End of Life" is the term used to describe that the phone will no longer be sold; I didn't mean that my life is over because of this. lol.

Yea, after doing a bit of research, the LG Revolution when EOL a month or so ago so I'm guessing that metropcs bought out the remaining stock to sell Esteems. It's not that the phone was no longer good, they just ran out of Esteems to sell.

I agree with Fuzzy, but I think that metropcs turnover phones quickly and have been conservative with their phone purchase orders after the failure of the Samsung Craft and BlackBerry 8530. I'm happy with my Esteem and I'm with you on not upgrading for a while. I REALLY REALLY hope and wish they get a phone that's similar to the Samsung Note in a year or two. That's my dream phone right now (if it had ICS).

I can't see them discontinuing the esteem yet, its one of their top selling phones, from the stores I've asked they say it's still out selling the connect

But trust i doubt it will go anytime soon, i got offered one for my esteem when i went to trade my other one off for a new one, i was like nope.
