LG G6 SLOW DOWN, HEATING AND BATTERY DRAINING FAST AFTER UPDATE

You are both right and both wrong at the same time (Did i somehow accidentally stumble upon "Shrodinger's Thread"?) ;) :D

Google doesn't track your device per se. It logs location metrics for your account by device. So if my tablet's at home and my phone is with me, I can theoretically be in two places at once (according to Google ... now they not only make me paranoid, but schizophrenic as well ;) at least i can say "Hey Google, where can I buy Prozac? :D) With location services enabled, you agree to let Google link that location to advertisers so if you are nearby they jump on you like a lion on a gazelle. You can turn off the pop-up for reviews if you wan't ... actually in the Google app settings you can pick and choose pretty much all of it, including turning off location services altogether. However, your carrier tracks you all the time 24/7 (they have to so cell coverage works).

It's a big deal to some, not so much to others. I think the conveniences outweigh the intrusion but that's only because i'm very adept at saying "NO!" to advertisers.

Hi guys,
I'm using the phone since oct 17' and only it has been months that I've been enjoying this phone. I don't really know if it's with the update or not, but hell... the phone's over heating and sometimes I'm scared that the phone doesn't burst off... slow forever... my friends bully me comparing with their low end phones which are way faster...
I thought of rooting the phone, thinking that could provide a solution but no camera app can take a proper advantage of the wideangle camera of rear and the option in the front... and the stable versions that are available for Lg G6 are pretty out dated.

I tried the following:
  • removing the cache
  • merging contacts
  • rebooting into safe mode and into normal
  • reinstalling whatsapp
  • reducing the animations through developer settings
  • removing unnecessary apps
Things I can't ignore:
  • connecting bluetooth devices round the clock
  • having mobile data or wifi on
I'm happy that things that are suggested by the users has helped a few... Me, being unfortunate, the phone's still screwing me... I wish someone could suggest a better and permanent solution...

Did this start happening right after the update? What do you battery stats show?

Excessive heat is caused by one (or a combination) of three things: High CPU use, rapid battery discharge or defective circuitry.

The first comes from a lot of active use or an app that has gone "rogue" (won't shut down when not in use). A simple reboot of the phone can solve this most of the time. The battery discharge is sort of related to the CPU use, but heavy Wifi or streaming (aka casting) can cause that, too without a heavy CPU load. The last, well, it could be a battery about to flame out, but LG batteries don't come from Samsung ;) or it could be failing radios or a short on the motherboard. If it's the latter of those, then you'd probably see some things simply stop working.

If you say the phone works but is laggy and hot, that makes me think it's a heavy load. You could try and troubleshoot but I've see people put many many hours in and still not find the culprit. I would recommend a full backup of everything (you do that anyway, right?) and then a factory reset. That should take you two or thee hours from start to finish.

If after all that, it still gets hot and lags, i think you got a bad phone. It happens. The good news is that LG offered an extra year warranty for free when you bought it. Please tell me you opted in for that.

Oh, one other thing could make your phone hot ... putting it in the microwave for a minute on high, but I'm guessing you didn't do that. ;) :D

Thanks for the reply... I attempted factory reset 20 days back... but it did not change much in the battery department. Right after one week the lag is back... I dont use wifi much.. I use mobile data most of the time... when it comes to casting, I don't use it at all...

In India we have only one year warranty and we have to opt or purchase extra warranty.... and lastly, I definitely did not try putting my phone in the microwave... :P

I'm gonna point a finger at WhatsApp.. It's owned by Facebook, which is renouned for hidden background processes and inability to allow a device Deep Sleep. Other than that, it could be a faulty kernel but WhatsApp is my 1st choice of your problems
 
I think i'm in semi-agreement with @bcrichster . If, as you say, it wasn't laggy for a week after the factory reset, then it tells me that it's app related. I assume after the reset you installed all the same apps as you had before? It may not be one app, but maybe just that right (or wrong) combinations of apps where they are fighting for control of the hardware ... What do your battery stats show? Are there specific apps that use the lion's share of the power?

Touché ..if OP has Root capability, he could also use a wakelock detector to find the offending app(s). Sometimes I have wakelock issues after a factory reset or fresh install due to some apps wanting to be opened so badly that it'll cause problems until you do open them and setup. The wakelock detector will help figure out a lot of the answers to the offending apps, but I'd almost be willing to bet $$ that WhatsApp is high on said list
