LG Optimus L70

sorry if i was confused or being misinformative. not my means. i was told the bootloader is the one and only needed key -the holy grail-, to flashing another carrier, various sim card acceptance, as well as access to all partitions. if the bootloader is locked how could another carrier even flash any of their info into the locked phone? can't see how you would even unlock a sim card. the phone it's going into needs to be bootloader unlocked to accept any sim just like once an iphone is bootloader unlocked it will accept any sim from most carriers like metro. i've never heard of an unlocked sim. i've done this with at&t iphones, boost phones, and tmobile all to metro.
not trying to be a D at all so don't take it as such. :)

as for the lg tool, is there a way to inject the batch into an update or format it to copy a lg update? just a thought.

AT&T and Tmobile dont get flashed to metro, you sim unlock them and then put a metro sim in. boost phones can be flashed but with the cdma network going down its not worth it. sim cards have no reliance on the bootloader, its merely a sim unlock code and you can be free of gsm carriers.

bootloaders are like a phones bios, it is what tells the phone to load the kernel and recovery and rom, a locked bootloader means it signature checks the kernel and recovery so you cant replace them with custom ones. the L70 has a locked bootloader so root isnt possible via those means, which means someone needs to have an exploit in order to root it, and its not gunna be for any time soon.

Picked one up to play around with. It's an OK phone. Snappy enough. I don't like optimus u.I. over kit Kat though lg really screwed that up. The storage issue i can see being a major problem with a lot of people. Even with an SD card you can only transfer certain apps. Also with the storage issues if you have any apps downloaded it is almost impossible to run the phone on ART runtime. ART uses a lot more space for app storage. If you have the money the moto g is a lot better device. Even the hspa only model. The g is built better runs better and the screen is amazingly better on the g. For 50 bucks the l70 isn't awful the knock unlock feature is pretty neat but if you have the extra money or can wait and save more I'd strongly suggest looking into something more along the lines of a moto g/x or a nexus 4/5.

senor shaby try this root from geo hot i just root my lg optimus l70 from metro pcs
this is the link (towelroot by geohot) just download the app that looks like an orange A

Towelroot worked on my lg l70, I verified it with root checker, I installed SuperSU and everything seems to be working fine, now I wanna know if I can install a custom recovery, I have the lg l70 from cricket by the way I don't know why there's not a lot of people talking about the cricket version it was also $100 with a $50 mail in rebate.

will you ever get tired of saying the same thing about the same phone, and its cousins every day?

i wish AF would have a banner that flashed and was on screen at all times displaying dont buy the following locked devices:

LG devices
Kyocera phones
Alcatel phones
Anything on Verizon

:P

Well i at first thought the L70 was a decent phone, and once again what a huge let down from LG. Have not seen a phone this bad since the Esteem.

Bug 1: Screen Lock is next to useless. Lock the screen and barely touch it and it unlocks. It does not even go to swipe to unlock.

Bug 2: Stock SMS or any SMS app if typing a long message automatically sends it in Korean or Chinese or something.

Bug 3: Randomly turns itself off. Not even a reboot. But completely off.

Bug 4: Locked bootloader. Really was this and LG move or a Metro Move. Nothing pisses a person off more than paying cash for a phone and not being able to get rid of the Spam ware that comes on it.

So please if at all possible avoid this phone like you would avoid a STD.

I am taking mine back to Corporate store again this coming week, and asking to exchange to a different phone or a full refund.

This is the second time within a month i have taken this phone back to a corp store.

1. Can be turned off by turning off double tap to unlock. Not a bug.
2. Never heard of.
3. Never heard of this problem with the l70 but some devices have rebooting issues.
4. Lg and most other makers lock bootloaders nowadays. For the vast majority of consumers they dont care. For example almost every single verizon device is a locked bootloader but look at the numbers they post every quarter. Again not a bug and a simple google search would of yielded this information on lg phones.for the price the device is fine. No its not an s5 or any other flagship device but its not suppose to be. For what it is and for 49.00 its a fine device.

On top of that most of the carrier bloat can be uninstalled from the app menu anyway. Also a locked bootloader really has nothing to do with removing bloatware all you need to remove bloatware is achieve root. You can do this with a locked bootloader. All the locked bootloader does is prevent a custom recovery from being installed and honestly even if this phone had an unlocked bootloader not sure anyone would make a recovery for it. Let alone a rom. Also its a myth removing carrier bloat will give you more space. All it will do is prevent the app from updating and taking up more space and again this could easily be achieved by disabling the app in the app menu. To root or not is a personal choice for people but like i said earlier the majority of people dont care. And for those that want to root and inatall roms theres plenty of devices out there that this could be done with. Most samsung devices moto devices any nexus device among others.

OMG that would be so helpful, maybe your onto something shabby, my alcatel ot fierce crapped itself when I tried to uninstall the camera app and install the stock AOSP Camera. Now i'm looking for other metro phones and how the dev is going before buying something else. Would hate to be in the same boat as I was in with the alcatel.

Thanks to MikeHoncho for boot loader unlock and cwm..and all

There is a functioning root for about 90% of devices as is which I can't put the link but eh its downloadable and simple. Just like you can unlock locked phones at home if you have about 4 hours of spare time and a hex reader but eh. I've floated the forums for years usually only reading and occasionally hopping on and such to chat or advise. I have never posted on AF but guess today's a good day. Everything on metro is rootable off rip from the box opening and its a simple link, download, install, download su, install su restart and boom. Now bootloaders and recovery is a different story. Thats fun for the advanced users and most of us try for months for some devices.... Cough.... Samsung....cough..... But any who guys towel root makes life easy
