Root Lg optimus m wont root?

Need help rooting my optimus m. This is what I did (probably wrong). Phone was having problems with force close issue/rebooting issue so metro replaced phone b/c I was inside 30 day window. Giving me my new phone guy says that this one was just updated (new system update) & is running on 2.2.2 platform. That out the way, I tried to root phone last night using gingerbreak 1.20 link in all things root. I used dolphin mini browser to download , used androzip to locate/ install & alowed usb debugging. Didnt work, kept me in window saying "may take a few mins, will reboot if success". I shut off phone restarted it formated sd card tryed again, had to switch allow usb debugging again, still no good. Tryed using sd card from rooted ascend, still no good. Also tried z4root apk with no effect thst kicks me out after I start permenant root, it says aquiring root shell, then bumps me out. I know gingerbreak link works I rooted ascend 20 before with great success. What am I doing wrong or did metro do something new to my phone? If so I cant wait for you guys to break whatever they came up with. Oh ascend also 2.2.2 platform. Thanks for your help in this matter, love you guys, (as much as a noob can) & keep up the good work love reading all the threads.

2.2.2 has not been rooted yet, but dont worry you have 2 options, 1st you can wait and at somepoint it will get rooted, or 2nd you can "downgrade" to 2.2.1 and then use gingerbreak to root it.
If you would like help downgrading just say so its not too difficult.

You know I read that somewhere, but a friend has just rooted his motarola triumph running 2.2.2 platform, & the ascend also 2.2.2, origanaly it was the 2.2.1 ofcourse. So I figured I was good, guess not. Please help with downgrade. As for paypal they wont accecpt me as im not on there min pay scale right now. Send alternate route maybe po box, but I cant promise anything at the moment. But I will keep you in mind. Thank you again.

Rooting isnt just about the android version, such as 2.2.1 or 2.2.2 but also which carrier and phone. the ascend 2.2.2 getting rooted wont work on the optimus unfortunate.
