LG Optimus V screen too small?

I am looking at the OV and the triumph and the ONLY thing that is keeping me from buying the triumph is the $299 price tag. I might have to settle with the OV and I would like to know on some feedback on the screen size. I own an ipod touch and use it everyday and I'm used to the screen size, is 3.2 vs 3.5 inches that different? Is the OV a bit too cramped to type or browse the web? I also heard that you can use a 10% off coupon on top of the $50 saving deal when you activate the triumph at BB, if this is true then I just might get the triumph instead. What do you guys think?

I will say the 1 thing that annoys me about the opt v is the keyboard spacing and hitting the wrong key several times. I am sure its 100x easier for females with nails to hit the exact keys they want.

The screen size is fine for browsing though.

I have 30days to return the opt v. I am only on day 2 of using it.

If amazon would carry the triumph I probably would get the triumph as I have a lot of amazon credit sitting around.

As far as the keyboard size is concerned, you will get use to it. Till then use the little microphone icon and speak into the bottom of the phone in a clear and unaccented voice. You will have to train it's speech recognition,so do it in a quite place right at first. You will find it will speed up all manner of typing chores,if you train it properly.

You are probably using the default Swype keyboard. Do yourself a favor and switch to the Android keyboard (in the settings menu) and typing will become 10x easier. The keys are much bigger.

I'm the opposite, I type twice as fast with Swype. I'm always hitting the wrong key with a regular keyboard. I always type in portrait, so yeah keys are real small! With Swype you can just swype and miss letters by 2 or 3 and it still posts the correct word 95% of the time.

The 3.2" screen is small, but adequate. I am thinking about a 7" Galaxy or 10" Transformer because of the small screen on the Optimus. I wish the Optimus Black would come out soon so I could decide between it and a Tablet. The problems with the Triumph are keeping me away from it. I don't think 3.2 to 3.5 would make a difference, but 4.1 would (and 7" for sure!)

Are trying to type on the swype keyboard? Your supposed to swype on the swype keyboard and it is much easier than typing.

ok thanks for the tip.
I'll try it...

Ok I made the switch to android keyboard. Seems better since you get more space especially in landscape mode.

thanks!

Uh, the screen doesn't respond to nails; they're actually a hindrance when it comes to typing on it. Try the Gingerbread keyboard from the market.

Back to the original OP question, the Triumph is a new faster phone, if you can swing the extra dough, I think it's a better option. Not to say the OV is a bad phone, I think it's a great phone, but faster speeds and larger screen never hurts.

Otherwise, as someone else mention try out the OV for 30 days and see if it suits your needs...if not trade it in for the Triumph.

Actually, the Optimus V has a capacitive touchscreen. This means that when you touch the screen, electric signals are sent from your fingertips. This is why most stylus's don't work on the Optimus.

Screen size is fine for use, and for portability. Not too small, not too big. Text size on the screen, on the other hand, is too small.

As much as I love the OV, the screen size is my 2nd biggest complaint (after the limited amount of memory.) The memory can be worked around but no matter what keyboard I try, I end up hitting the wrong key constantly. I've used Flex T9, Android 2.2, Gingerbread KB, Stock Swype, HTC IME MOD, and Swype 3.0 and even though some are better than others, I still have trouble typing on that cramped keyboard.

Now granted, I'm probably bigger (With bigger hands) than the typical Optimus Owner, so it may be easier for you guys to adjust but it's a constant exercise in frustration for me. As soon as I'm ready to sell my Optimus, I'll be giving the Triumph a try.

hi new lg optimus v owner and new to this thread. is the resolution changeable? my screen is pixelated and was wondering if that's normal or are your screens not as pixelated? searched the web site and couldn't find the proper thread sorry if I put it in the wrong place.

Can you take a screenshot and show us what you're seeing?

Should look nice and clean like so...

Once I got used to swype I found that it worked MUCH better for me than the stock Android keyboard as in it was quicker for me to "type" with. The recognition db that it ships with is a bit limited and so on the occasions when tapping was required it was painful.

Too cramped to really use for web browsing(too small) and zooming didn't exactly help alot as while it was easier to read it was only a small portion of a site so it only had very marginal usefulness for browsing anything.

Other apps seemed to be OK though(pixelwise res/screen size), e.g. Maps, Messaging, etc.

That said the Triumph is nearer to being actually useful for browsing, and I knew about how that was going to be as I also own a 16GB Archos A43IT (4.3" 480x854 screen, extra 54 pixels get allocated to what other devices use hw keys or cap buttons for...) which I've used on occasion for browsing... not as nice 600x800 or 600x1024 on my other two tablets, but it's a phone and higher res would just mean higher pixel density and not necessarily readability/useability ...

...and well that's the major advantage of screen size/res to me. Everything else works out more or less the same useability to me...
