Help lg optimus v software update

I have a lg optimus v, I was downloading the software for my phone, when I get some message... something about a fatal error while downloading software update,contact customer service or something like that...can someone please tell me whats up

Where you trying to use the ZV5 update(which is just a 2.2.2 froyo update from 2.2.1)with the LG Mobile Updater.It's not the Gingerbread update that you might think it is. It's a waste of time,they took the tethering and WiFi hot spot out. If you want gingerbread on your phone then go to the "All Things Root" subforum and check it out. They got the BACKside ROM that is CM7-IHO Gingerbread. Whay better than what LG has come out with.
 
I also heard that theres a 2.3 update, but I cant find it any wheres...is it even out yet? I heard that its supposed to be so much better than the 2.2.1 im running now. whats the best choice for me to update my phone software?
 
If there is an update, they will push it over the air to your phone amd you should get a notification on the notification bar, or at least a notification when you click "software update" on your phone.

The update will come from Virgin, not the LG site.

The update on the LG site is not something you want or need, and I do not know of anyone who has sucessfully installed it, though several have tried, just to see what it was. One contacted LG and they didn't seem to even know it was there.

As far as I know, the only difference between 2.2.1 and 2.2.2 is that the hotspot has been disabled.

I agree 100% and the new IHO-CM7(gingerbread)ROM's are being improved every day and will be far superior than the 2.3 update that VM comes out with(if ever).
 
I appreciate everything everyone told me...i have one more thing if I was to root my phone,how would I do it and how would get IHO-CM7 (gingerbread) rom. is there a link that will help me with everything. when and if vm decides to update should I ignore it if my phones been rooted. all the help is grateful.
 
do I root my phone before installing IHO-CM7 (gingerbread) rom. if so whats the best site to go to. I dont wanna listen to just anyone cause some people have no idea what theyre doing

Start with " guide to rooting without a computer " then go to "How to install a custom recovery,......found in the"all things root " section
