Help LG Thrill on AT&T estimated arrival?

Hello all, Im currently an iPhone 4 owner, and looking to switch to Android on att. Does anyone know when the LG Thrill is suppose to arrive? And is this worth the wait or should I go with the Motorola Atrix? Thanks guys!

AT&T is having a developer webcast June 23rd specifically for 3D apps. I'd be surprised if there wasn't an announcement then.

newb response here :p but nonetheless, I'm still gonna sound off.

After reading the short on the Thrill, it seems it's big "Thrill" (pun intended) is the 3D capability in pictures and video. So, I ask: what good is it to have 3D capabilty on your phone? I figure the main idea for the camera/camcorder function on the phone is to share it it with others. Sure, you get to view it on 3D... but only on your phone. Your friends with 2D will not.

So is it worth the wait to have the 3D capability?

I also wonder if the Thrill will stand up to it's expectations and supposed improvements over the Atrix (if any)... from a high-level perspective, they both have similar characteristics... the dual core, 5MP camera quality, etc.

I personally like the Atrix for it's capability to plug into a desktop/laptop dock and have sort of a laptop handy when needed. Although the laptop dock is not worth it and it lacks some capability when compared to a netbook, it's a nice concept - and definitely cool if that laptop docking station drops further in price :D... but that's just me... a newb.

The Thrill has dual channel memory to go with the dual core cpu. Remains to be seen what speed improvement the dual channel memory gives a phone. Also the 3D content can be output to a 3D capable TV, and those are becoming more common. To be honest, it's ahead of its time right now. I'm considering it for the 3d games, but I'm going to put one through its paces next to the Attain (Galaxy-S II) and see which one wins. One odd thing I'm interested in is, how does the 3D screen look when wearing polarized sunglasses?

Personally, I'm not a fan of Motorola phones. Blur isn't for me, and they don't have a very good track record with updates when compared to the rest. (I don't count Samsung's problems with updating the Galaxy-S phones in the US - blame goes to the carriers there.)

Well on AT&T's website it says that this will be the first 4.3" glasses free 3D smartphone in the U.S. That means it must come out before the Evo 3D on June 24th.

So does that mean it will be out June 24th?

If they are telling the truth then yes it MUST be out by latest on the 24th and before any Sprint stores open.

Now that I think about it, even if it is released by then, Sprint Premier customers are getting their Evo 3Ds starting today, and Sprint gave away 5 free 3D Evos yesterday. So no matter how they slice it, the Evo 3D is a glasses free 3D 4.3" screen and it is in the US right now, so really they're already lying. I'm currently on ATT with the iPhone 3GS and am really considering switching to Sprint because they actually have 4G that covers somewhere in my area. And ATT has really gotten on my nerves recently.

But you need to realize that future of Sprint WiMax doesn't look good. It's the worst of so called 4G wireless these days with poor speed, coverage, building penetration. Verizon 4G LTE and even T-mobile HSPA+ is much better in speed, coverage. All rumors suggest Sprint will also make transition to LTE soon and AT&T will start deploying their LTE this summer.

As for these two phones, I don't care much about 3D stuffs. Only the functionality as smart-phone matters to me. So far benchmarks indicate TI OAMP4/dual channel memory in Optimus 3D (Thrill) has edge over Snapdragon 8660 in Evo3D across the board. If I'm on AT&T, Thrill will be on top of my list along with SGSII Attain.

I know LTE beats out WiMax, it's just that AT&T's 4G is a joke right now. The speed tests I've seen are terrible and they have barely any coverage. Plus the 3G I'm on right now is slow. Sprint will switch over to LTE, and they are the only company that allows unlimited data. Tmoble throttles speeds after you use too much, AT&T only let's you have unlimited if you were grandfathered in (I was), Verizons getting tiered plans later this summer. And IMO, I can't think of any reason someone would want a 3D phone and not care about the 3D because the Galaxy S 2 is the most powerful phone available right now. And the 3D phones dont look especially better than it or slimmer.

The problem with getting Evo 3D is that you will be stuck with their lackluster WiMax while there are better 4G services around. And aside from 4G issues, I think Thrill is better phone performance wise.

Could you tell me why? I'm getting a 3D smartphone because of 3D movies and 3D gaming. I don't like games like Let's Golf 3D or some lame 3D racing game that has tilt controls. I don't have a 3DTV yet. I would buy a game like NOVA 3D or Angry Birds 3D and most likely Splinter Cell 3D. Could you recommend the Thrill to me over the 3D?

Dammit AT&T... you've got 17 days to release this thing before my contract is up. It seemed like a sure bet several months ago.

HURRY UP!

Yeah, I know what you mean. My contract is up July 4, and I have the Evo 3D. It's a great phone, but Sprint isn't a great (consistent) service provider. In Missouri when I had 1 bar of 4G I got about 5mbps, in Florida, where I live, when I have full bars, I get 2.7mbps, and if I'm REALLY lucky I'll get a little over 3mbps. I was hitting speeds up to 9mbps in Missouri!

Also WiMax is a batter killer, and I've been with ATT for 7 years without things being that bad. My 3G speeds are consistent and they may be slow with deploying 4G, but hopefully it'll at least be reliably FAST whenever I get the signal.

Looks like good time for android shoppers at AT&T is coming soon, Attain and Thrill. Over at Verizon, it's Bionic vs Function. But launch schedule of both device is still up in the air.

I think you meant to link this:

I'm giving up. I think I'll get the Infuse instead. Better camera. Bigger screen. I really wanted that dual-core though... and I think LG makes sturdier hardware. Rats.

Yeah that's what I meant. Thx 4 posting. And instead of the Samsung Infuse, I suggest waiting for the Samsung Attain (Galaxy S2). The Galaxy S2 is dual core and has the 8MP camera, plus the latest Android 2.3.

Yeah, I've held the Infuse, it's too big. I need to be able to hold the phone in one hand and type with my thumb while the other hand is holding my kids or something.
