Help LG Volt front facing camera error

rrednitsua

Lurker
Hey all, I'm new here,

Just today my LG Volt (Virgin Mobile White version) started taking seemingly lower resolution photos with the front facing camera. I tried using toothpaste as well as profession CD scratch cleaner as I did have several scratches over the area of the camera, but it hasn't made difference. Therefore I have self-diagnosed this as a software problem. I do notice that there is a number in the stock camera app that implies there is an error. Unfortunate this number seems to keep fluctuating to random numbers.

Any help would be greatly appreciated, please and thank you! :)

I used snapchat front flash to take this, I understand that it's dark, it doesn't matter. You can see the blurred effect I have.

Are you using the stock camera? Try a different one, like Google camera, and see if it's the same.

You are in extremely low light, it's going to be like that, most front facing cameras suffer from that unless you've got great lighting

Did your friends tell you this? someone on snapchat? Jesus... a cd lens is NOT taking pictures.. it is using a laser and the only thing it needs to see as feed back is if the laser is shining against something or not. Also the lenses are normal glass, nor plastic, not gorilla glass. Now you DID attempt to take the worst picture possible with the worst camera in the world, go outside and take a picture and we will try and rule out your phone as the culprit, but a ghosting image like that is the product of a smudged lens, which is what you get when you have hundreads of tiny little scratches all over it.

I didn't think to address this, but yeah, if you read the CD scratch cleaner, it will probably say something about leaving a haze on the surface. I know because I considered using one to fix the scratches in my glasses at one point and read the packaging on a couple different ones. Also, toothpaste is an abrasive substance. You may have scratched the hell out of your lens...maybe not, since the actual camera lens is behind the gorilla glass and I would hope the glass is stronger than tooth enamel, lol.

The picture you posted really does just look like the product of bad lighting.

I did mis read cd as cd lens cleaner.. but the effect is still the same. The scratch remover doesn't actually remove scratches but rather grinds down the area around the scratch to a more level surface. Level enough for a laser, not a CMOS chip to shoot out of. :)

You're probably right, I panicked and tried the first things I could find on the internet. I'll post several more photos tomorrow from my PC. It gives me a caked foggy look like that on all photos. I do have a ton of small scratches all over the camera lens that have accumulated from the way I put my phone in my pants in goes across the rivet in my jeans.

In the mean time what do you guys suggest for fixing the scratches? Or should I just replace my phone for a $25 shipping fee?

Also remember this is the front facing camera. I believe it just sits behind the same gorrila glass that covers the whole front screen.

Check out a jewelry store for a polishing kit. You essentially want a solution with super fine grit and just buffer the hell out of the area.
