The 4GB available to the user is with the OS and bloatware already installed. That is the space that the user has when everything is all said and done. I had the F3 with Virgin Mobile and I have this phone with them. The phone has 1GB of RAM and 4GB of storage. I have a screen shot that shows right around 4GB for the user.

TNSmokey98, Thanks for the screen shot and help!

So other than the more memory to installs apps, what are the other bigger things that you like about the Volt over the F3?

Thanks.

Sorry i will post another screen shot. I could go on and on about how much i love this phone. Quad-core processor, ir blaster kit kat nice 4.7 inch screen fm radio. Look and feel of the ui. Huge 3000 mah battery that last forever.

Well so far the things I like better is the screen size. it makes a big difference. The Quad Core processor is very snappy. The battery life believe it or not is better than my F3. The LTE spark is hands down better. It gets you on the tower with the fastest LTE that you are near. Overall this phone runs circles around the F3.

You can pick up 87 megs right away by getting rid of the facebook crap. The more stuff you remove or disable that you don't use , cause it is useless, the quicker your phone will run. Only a few?people before figured out that if you bought an htc first cheap and deleted the facebook crap, you had a jellybean nexus phone.

You do know your opinion isn't fact right? People use different things.

I don't understand that screen shot. It says 3.93 Total and 3.49GB used in Apps. How does that add up to 2.45GB available?!? No where near that it would seem to me.

It thought I had it figured out, but this just doesn't make sense.

the 2.45 that it says available is because he is using a SD card partitioned for his apps.

The internal memory is emulated. Most of that is google play music which is installed on sd. Shows that because google music is a internal app and the music is installed on sd. Could be a little confusing down side of kit kat

Thanks guys for trying to explain this to me. Please bear with me. Is Jessywilson81 rooted and linking to SD and that's why?

I guess the bottom line that I want to know is this. Can I install approximately 3 GB worth of apps on the Volt phone (NOT rooted/altered)?

(As opposed to the approximately 1 GB worth of Apps I can do on my F3.)

Thanks

3 gb is cutting it close with out root. Thats why i rooted i filled the internal memory quick without root. The only downside of this phone is internal memory with google changing security in kit kat it will not allow apps to write to sd so without root you can fill internal memory quick.

Under Settings > Apps > "user app", does the Virgin Mobile version of the Volt have the button to "Move to SD"?

Thanks

At least the locked cdma version has lte. I looked at gsm version and it did not. So, i went with moto g/lte and it also has micro sd slot. √........:)

Downloaded apps (some) can be moved

Settings> apps> Downloaded
Click on a downloaded app and if it can be moved you'll see a button with black words "Move to SD"
If its grey you can't move it.

so any problems with this phone after root? should or shouldn't I do it? did anyone get Wi-Fi hotspot after root?

no problems for me. been rooted since monday night. superuser works fine, i can now move apps and files to sd (i will never underappreciate THAT feature again). no glitches. its just stock root. issues tend to come up with custom roms. ive even installed busybox, again no issues. also installed xposed framework with no problems. i only installed one module (xblast) tested it by choosing the hide alarm incon, and it hid it, but i tried to bring it back and had to wait about 2 minutes for it to come back. However i also didnt have busybox installed at that time. i work monday through friday so i might try some more modules this weekend. Should you root, proceed with the knowledge we cant make a backup or restore anything so really do your due diligence before modifying anything.

yes. on the lock screen if you Swipe left or right on the clock you can edit that widget or add different ones on the other screens you get if you keep swiping. also, you can put your finger on the clock and swipe down

I'd go with the volt. My wife has an s3. It straight up slow. Lags horribly and the 4g is touch and go. My volt on the other hand is great through boost. It gets 4g LTE pretty much everywhere and kit Kat is great you can also switch between dalvic and art. I haven't made up my mind yet witch one I like more but so far everything about this phone is better then an s3 and even my optimus f7
