Help Light causing phantom swipes on optical track pad

bostontom

Newbie
I am still experiencing phantom swipes (only to the left) on my Incredible. Putting a piece of duck tape over the optical track pad seems to resolve it. This has been ongoing for about a month and a half. I have a warantee but really don't want to wait for my new phone/get one of the newer LCD phones. I have been able to recreate the phantom swipe by moving the phone under different light sources. This is so annoying.

I have tried everything, there isn't dust on my track pad and its not a matter of grounding. I really hope this is not a hardware issue. I got my Inc by pre-order (original with AMOLED). I have been able to toy with some of the newer Inc builds (with the LCD screen). I have noticed the trackpad is more flush with the unit, this leads me to believe they reworked the hardware to fix an issue. Anyone else with the original AMOLED Inc builds experiencing this?

This is usually caused by static, not light. Running something grounded (wire, metal, etc) over it should take any residual charge away from the screen/case/pad and stop the swiping.

How have you played with an LCD Incredible when they aren't even out yet, and probably won't be for a few months? They are still shipping AMOLED and only AMOLED.

They are definitely shipping LCD at this point. If you have handled a recently shipped Inc you will notice the screen is not as vibrant as the AMOLED, you will also notice that the track pad is flush/maybe even sticking out a bit as opposed to the original track pad which is slightly indented. The newer phones are also slightly heavier.

Again, I have grounded the phone multiple times, it's not a static issue.

I have the newest build you can get (just received it this week brand new).

It is the same exact as the model released in April in terms of hardware.

Matched it up to another AMOLED older Incredible and they are exactly the same.

Also, no LCDs yet.

I think you are confused.

I'm telling ya, if you run your finger over the trackpad of an older model and a newer model, there is a major difference.

The Incredibles shipping now have the same part number and revision number as the AMOLED version. Also there would be an announcement when the change actually takes place. There are no LCD Incredibles in the wild yet.

Mine was made in May and the track pad is completely flush with the glass. I also definitely have AMOLED.

Pics or ban? Pretty hostile but I'll comply. My younger brother recently had his shipped, and the optical track pad difference was evident when holding both in hand. When I get home I'll take pictures.

Until then, if you go to Settings > About Phone > Hardware Information

What is your "Hardware Version" for recently shipped Incredibles? Again, received mine through pre-order (branded htc incredible on box, not droid incredible) and my hardware version is "002"

If your trackpad is indented, maybe that's your problem. All Incredibles I have seen the trackpad is slightly protruding (ever-so-slightly) and not indented.

Yep, i would say that is the problem. My trackpad is just above the phone, and basically level with the new hight of the added screen protector. If yours was recessed, that could cause a problem.

Thanks for all of the input. The slightly recessed/protruding trackpads are exactly what I am talking about. I believe this is one of the differences between hardware version 002 and 003. If you pre-ordered/got the HTC incredible branded phone, those are slightly recessed track pads. However, the newer Droid incredible branded phones have slightly protruding trackpads. My question is, did HTC/Verizon do this to correct a known issue? Maybe the original 002 hardware builds are defective? Anyone else with slightly recessed trackpads with this issue?

Sorry for the double post but I just came across this thread:

http://androidforums.com/htc-incred...-feels-wider-thicker-heavier-anyone-else.html

Where the user notes some of the differences I noticed. He highlights the differences in displays as well with pictures. Check it out.

That thread's pics were also all taken at different angles, distances, etc. The OP never provided measurements or anything, and was pretty much dismissed.

As Adrynalyne said, show us a different hardware version or pics of a side-by-side or something.

All of the reviews say recessed because the reviews took place prior to/during launch, so they were reviewing the older units (the non-droid branded unit you got if you pre-ordered). There may not even be an 003, thats just my theory, but if you recently received your incredible in the past month, I guarantee your trackpad is slightly protruding as opposed to recessed.

My non-recessed phone was made 5/27, so that sorta kills the month idea...

So you need help because your track ball is doing strange things on you. You think you have LCD but you don't, however this is another issue.

Cool, let's try and see what's wrong with your track ball.

So you are saying the older phones had recessed track pads and the new phones have protruding trackpads?

Before you said the opposite?

Now you are quoting someone from OVER a month ago saying people were receiving LCD screens in the middle of June? (This thread was proved FUD)

Now I'm lost. Exchange your phone if it's doing something weird - they will cover it under warranty. There are no LCDs yet, so the CS will think you are crazy.

Sorry if I accidentally contradicted myself but the point is my trackpad is having major issues. I will most likely use my warranty to get a replacement. However, as this is a discussion board, I am wondering if there is any correlation between the fact that my older incredible has a recessed trackpad, and newer incredibles for some reason have protruding track pad. In other words, did HTC or Verizon correct the issue I am having with a hardware fix?

Older incredible: Recessed track pad (its slightly set back into the body of the unit)

Newer incredible: Protruding track pad (it extends slightly outside of the body of the unit)

I know for a fact that both exist. From replies on this thread alone, people have noted that they have both recessed and protruding trackpads.
