Help light sensor vs proximity sensor

One detects light to do screen brightness, the other can tell if the it's at your ear so you don't push the buttons on the screen with your face and turns the screen off at the sane time.

Can't the light detector do the same thing?
If ur face is close to the phone, the light is dim

If this was the logic for switching the screen off, then you wouldn't ever be able to switch your screen on:

1. in a dark room
:hmmmm:

2. At night
:alberteinstein:

3. When logged into WazzoJuggs under your duvet and you want to introduce Pam to Rod.

I'll get my coat.
