Root Linux Mint 14 Drivers

After installing Awesome Android, I needed to transfer some data and free some space. However, I'm using Linux Mint 14 and the drivers won't install. This is the message I get when I try and run the install script:
Nexidus USB_Driver # ./install
*** Check for root ***
ZTE handset driver install...
driver install
this is linux driver installtion
this is customized kernel, kernel version is: 3.5.0-23-generic
ls: cannot access /dev/sr[0-9]: No such file or directory
eject cdrom:
**********************************************
ZTE handset driver install failed
**********************************************
This is the help file:
How to use linux driver for ZTE device

1.Copy the package to your system. Be sure of logining with root account in terminal.

2.run the command cd ../the package directory

3 chmod 777 install uninstall

4 for install, run:

./install

5 for uninstall, run:

./uninstall

note:

the driver can support these disturbutions:

Ubuntu: 10.04,10.10,11.04,11.10

Fedora: 13,14,15,16

Mint: 10,11,12
The problem is, they don't support my version of Linux Mint. Is there any way to trick it into installing anyway or something along those lines, because until then, I have to shut off the phone, transfer files, then put the SD card back every time. I also wanted to be able to use the USB Tether option if it were available, but that's not priority.

I tried that. In fact, I tried every mode listed, but the phone doesn't show up. With the stock ROM, I was able to use MTP in Win and Linux, but with Awesome Android, I cannot do anything, even in Windows. I figured it was because I needed new drivers. Windows is always a bit funky (even when it does work right), so I figured it would work in Linux, but, like I said, the drivers won't install in Linux.

I've been emailing ZTE back and forth to work out a solution. If they give me any useful information, I'll post the transcript here.

ive had issues using the sequent on linux since i bought it. the drivers say there not compatible with the kernel on mint 14. it works just fine on windows though, which i run in a virtual machine.

The thing is, I'm now having issues with Windows as well. I installed ZTE drivers using their software, but none of the modes will show my phone in Windows. Not as MSC or MTP. I tried both. Like I said, it used to work with the stock ROM, but in Awesome Android, I get nothing (maybe I should post this in that thread?). The driver install mode works, but that's it. Everything else acts like my phone isn't even connected. I haven't tried un/reinstalling the software in Windows, which I'm getting ready to try after I reboot and switch. I'll post whether or not that works.
