ok, ive been lurking for a bit, getting an idea of whats what, and familiarizing myself with the forums and my android. Now it seems i've run into a problem. i somehow messed up my build.prop file and need to know what folder its located in? i'm going to use adb to try to push a backup on and replace the corrupt one if anyone knows where it is, or if this will work, let me know.

thanks for the offer, but i was smart enough to make a back-up of everything before i started fooling with it. just didnt think to look in it to find the file system structure and i had the build.prop backup stored separately since i had already bricked 2 phones this same way. first one i just returned, and exchanged because i hadnt backed up. second one i had backed up and in a some what panic i restored to factory defaults and couldnt access through adb after. this time i was calm and mostly prepared... but you saved the day. thanks again

Ive done the same thing, my phone is made by huawei, but I can only get it to start in fastboot mode. My computer recognises it it as an ADB device, but ADB itself wont see it, so I cant push the build.prop backup.

Can you give me the USB driver you used for me to try?

Thanks.

Ascend I assume?

Or mate?

actually its neither....
My phone is a Cherry mobile orbit/GSmart G1310

When I start in restore mode, my computer recognises it as a huawei phone.

I have drivers for this phone, and I can connect when booted, but now the only way the phone will run is under fastboot mode.

No drivers I have tried so far work with SDK, ADB Fastboot or anything.
The computer recognises the device as a ADB device, but the apps wont read it.

I'll try any and all drivers you suggest to make it read, so I can push the origional build.prop file back into the system directory. (the phone is rooted)

Thanks.

Have you tried the peanut drivers?
Some phones can use them to access Adb, its even used in a few rooting apps.

I have exactly the same problem, screwed up the build.prop when trying to change it. I made a copy and renamed it build.1 which I have on my downloads file on the computer but I can't get it load because the only thing I can do is access the Android System Recovery utils for bml. Is this the Odin tool? As you can deduce I'm a complete noob to this.
The options showing are 1. reboot system now 2. apply sdcard:update4.zip 3. wipe data/factory reset 4. wipe cache partition 5. test redbend fota[FS]
Someone please point me in the right direction to get this phone up and running again. I've tried all of these options and nothing helps. Phone still boots to the Metro start up Hello etc. but then just vibrates.

Go to the All Things Root thread about root/stock with Odin, and follow the steps to downoad and flash the stock file. That should work ideally. It has on mine
