Root Liven up Fresh?

Hi everyone! First let me begin by saying thank you. I've been lurking for a while now. Thanks to y'all I have a rooted Evo and I love it.
My question is: is there a way to liven up the Fresh rom? I know it's Sense based but it's kind of boring. I had Cyanogenmod 7and I loved it. The down side being it's a complete battery hog. I was having to charge my phone three times a day. As great as it is, that gets very old. Not to mention my signal dropped including 4g. Any suggestions to make Fresh a little better? Not to dog Fresh because it's very snappy and no bugs as of yet. I just flashed it yesterday. I guess CM7 spoiled me.

If you liked the looks of CM7, you could install Launcherpro or ADW Launcher, both are quite similar to CM7 (in fact ADW is what CM7 uses, I just like LP better.) Also did you try any custom kernels with CM7 because I am using CM7 with the tiamat kernel and can easily get two and a half days on one battery charge. Also you may want to try out Setcpu if you don't already, it will also extend battery life if used properly. How could you tell that you had a signal drop on CM7? I find that my signal is just as good or better than a Sense ROM.

Thanks for the suggestions. I don't know why I didn't think of using one of the launchers. I haven't tried one of the kernels. I didn't know which one to use. I might give that a try because there are so many features that I like about it. I consistently get five bars of 3g coverage where I live. On CM7 I was only getting one or two. I get one bar of 4g at work but with CM7 it was constantly scanning when turned on.

I cant speak to the 4g I dont have 4g but if you like go back to cm7 and try that tiamat kernel, its a great combo for most people.

As far as the "bars" on sense roms like fresh (old fresh, new fresh has been updated i think) they only show signal (1x, I can make a phone call and send a text, signal) not data. Meaning you could have great cell reception but have NO data at all. Also sense roms (again some are updated now) wont ever show if you are on 3g data or 1X it always just says 3G, effectively lying to you. The difference on the AOSP rom like CM7 is the way it calculates the signal. The way I understand it those bars now include how good your data signal is where as before it was just cell reception. AOSP roms will also differentiate between 3g and 1x. basically I said all that to say this. IT IS UNLIKELY that your actual SIGNAL CHANGED. I have seen one person argue that he got worse signal by going to the middle of no where and using sense to make a call then flashing cm7 and not being able to make a call...? Technically your signal should remain unaffected. So keep cm7 if you like (tho the 4g thing im not sure on, never had 4g).

Also why fresh? Fresh makes a wonderful rom for people that like stock with extra speed or want a base to modify themselves. If you are looking for flashy there are great alternatives out there. Which fresh are you on? The gb base? As far as gb base is concerned MIK has MIKG which is a great 2.3 rom. King just released a rom based on MIKG also. MIKG may be stock looking but there are themes out there to be flashed for MIKG. Kings is fully themed already. Also Myn, Virus and the rest of team SYNERGY are working on the synergy rom, a 2.3 base that is great an customized from stock. Check out MIKG, KINGS r6, and Synergy if you want GB with sense. Oh there are like 17 skins I know of that work on sense 2.1 roms which is what MIKG, KIngs r6, and Synergy are which make them that much more customizable.

Is fresh sense 2.1? If so those skins will work on it. Try them out. THey are floating around. I know you can find a bunch over at the mikmik under mikg themes.

And finally yes you can always install adw or Lp and theme those up for easy customization if you want to keep fresh.

Thanks so much for the explanation and help! I went back to Cm7 and flashed Tiamat. I will give it through the weekend to gauge battery life. I will also go through the forums for the best settings to optimize it.
