locked bootloader??

What's so great about the cyanogenmod? I'm on AT&T so I really really want the Atrix. The Infuse and Inspire just seem to pale in comparison. Does HTC lock their bootloader?

Many believe CyanogenMod is the finest, most elite ROM of all. Like Fadelight, I am very loyal to CyanogenMod, and I too, will NOT buy a phone I can't install CyanogenMod onto. No matter what the hardware specs are.

It's the reason I bought an Incredible instead of an X. I wanted the X, but I bought the Incredible because I wanted CyanogenMod more than I wanted a big screen.

With CyanogenMod, you get a lot of extra goodies and tweaks that most ROMs just don't have.

the only things you can't do on the DX is load a fully functional 2.3 rom(which there aren't any yet) CM is working on one but its still testing. And port non moto roms like sense based roms or true aosp roms.

I've been running Gingerbread CyanogenMod for the last 2 weeks... the builds that have been out for the past week are near-perfect.

The biggest thing they need to do now is add hardware accelerators so that 3d graphics will show up in Quadrant.

And if you are wondering... Gingerbread is very similar to Froyo, mostly just themed differently and is possibly a bit faster and less homescreen lag / redraws. The redraws, though minimized, are still there, though.

It would be a dream come true to be able to run CyanogenMod on the Bionic. I am hoping like crazy that this phone will not be locked down!

So with a locked bootloader would you be able to overclock the processor? Also with the DX or other moto phones with a locked bootloader can devs make roms that don't have bloatware?

The developers recently have been able to overclock the X, even though the bootloader is locked.

I just rooted and ROMed my daughter's new X, and I installed an app from the Market that overclocks it. I overclocked it to 1.3Ghz, and was pulling down nothing less than 1650 in Quadrant every single time. In real world use, at that speed, it was almost incomprehensibly fast compared to stock. So yes - overclocking is possible with whatever workaround solution they came up with.

Sorry that veered off-topic, but I had very fresh experience for this question. :o

What about underclocking? Is it possible to automatically over and underclock the processor. Like if the screen is off or I'm doing some simple web browsing the processor will be underclocked and if I'm playing games than it will overclock. I'm not sure what kind of issue I'll have with the battery if I run the phone overclocked all the time.

If the DX or DX2 get Gingerbread OTA, would that work if you had already rooted your phone when it was 2.2? Would have to un-root to get the update, then root again?

If you wanted the official update, then you would have to unroot your phone and then wait for someone to crack root on the newer version, as it would require a diff process.

My suggestion would be to wait a lil bit, as someone will create a ROM for the newest version. As a matter of fact, I just read in a diff thread here in this forum that someone with a DX is already on 2.3.

So, the idea would wait until Moto updates to 2.3, then root and get custom Gingerbread roms, etc.

The last three posts should have been in the DX forum.

Also the dx has been running GB 2.3.3 for a while now. We're currently on our 4th leak i believe. Rumor has the official dropping soon. Also all we have to do according to the powers that be are flash a specific GB build in order to receive the official ota.

No, these are appropriate here because I was trying to figure out how the Bionic would handle rooting and ROM'ing, and the DX comparison is the only one to make. But the point is still how it would impact the Bionic.

But that is glad to hear that the locked bootloader should not be a problem for rooting and rooting should not be a problem for getting official GB down the road.
