Help Locking up when asleep

This is not the random shutdown issue. I fixed this by getting a new phone, but it looks like I have been having a different issue.

When my phone is asleep and I hit the home button, nothing happens. I tap the home button and the button lights flash as if the phone is on. I pull the battery and when I put it back in and power back up, the battery is almost gone.

My ideas: I think that it's locking up with an app that is running in the background that is taking up processor power which is killing the battery. I have noticed that if I don't notice this for a while the amount of battery discharge becomes greater, so having said that, does anyone have any ideas?

Current apps running in background:

Fancy Widget
Google Search
Mail (yahoo)
Maps
Messaging
Paypal
settings
Task Manager
Where's my droid
Youmail
eBay
and of course ATK

I don't think that it is all of these, and I have tried removing each one between the freezing. No difference for specific apps. I have also had freezing while I use apps but sometimes it only lasts for a few seconds, sometimes, gotta pull the battery.

And yes I have enabled autokill on all non necessary apps.
