long lines at verizon?

It may not be as catastrophic as iphone launches are when it seems like 1/10 of the population is waiting for one

but take in account the Evo's initial launch was also marred by shortage(and it wasn't because of anything amoled just because the phone was so freaking popular)

I wouldn't be camping out like 2 or 3 hours early but i would at least be there maybe a half hour, an hour earliest at most

i'm going in to work early and i have a pretty laid back work schedule so i'm going up there about 30 to an hour early then taking off the rest of the day lol.

Atleast you are not in the spot I am in. I will be on vacation and in a state that charges you for the full price of the phone not the discount. I know Costco is different or they used to be when I lived there before. So if there are shortages I have to order it online and have it shipped and sitting here for me when I get home, but this will have 2 ported numbers, so not a good idea. Or hope that Costco has them and that they still charge on the wholesale price for a phone. I would not mind paying an extra 14 per phone with the costco extras but I would mind paying and extra 42 per phone.
I will also be leaving for Cali on launch day. I called a csr and they can mail the X to your hotel, and because your billing address is not cali you will pay your local sales tax.

The CRS's keep saying to not expect a line and no shortages. However you do not make any buzz if you have plenty of units for everyone that wants one. So I suspect they will sell quite quickly. But they have a second order already placed and it will be in store and on the website by Monday. That way they get the buzz and yet still have product avail in a timely manner.

A timely manner would be to have enough on release day to satisfy the demand. Damn the Buzz. This is why they should do pre-odres so they know what to expect and how many they will need on hand. Inconveniencing the customers to create buzz is BS in my book:eek:

I'm hoping no, but who knows really? I will be there an hour early (7am), if there is a line of 10+ people I will go down the street to another VZW that is opening at 9 and try my luck there.

And if it has a line of 15 will you drive back to the other....and find the line is now 20 so you drive back.......you get the point.......:D a line if 10 doesn't sound like it's too big.

Your plan sounds like my wife when we go out to eat and there's a 45 minute wait. She makes us drive 40 minutes to a different place only to find a 50 minute wait. We could have been eating by now if we had just stayed where we were to start with. :D

well, we have three days left and out in front of the verizon at the king of prussia mall now. i`ll keep yall posted how long the line gets.

seriously joking! :D

Bad analogy..... I don't like driving around to eat either and both restaurants are open at the same time. :p

There are two things that make this work for me. The first store is opening an hour earlier than the second. Also the first store is in a "retail area" for lack of a better word and the other is off by itself. I'm willing to bet the second won't have a line at all, it is kind of a po-dunk store. lol If there is a line at the second I will just be staying there, it is closer to my house anyway, I was just hoping to have it in my hands and hour sooner. :D

So, question along these same lines...

Will the X be available to purchase online Thursday @ 12:01 AM?
EST or PST?
Through the Verizon B2C site?
Through the Verizon Boeing B2B site?
Will it not be available online at all during the initial launch?

I'd almost rather do that and get it on Friday then have to leave work on Thursday for a couple hours just for a phone.

Thanks for any insight.

All by design ;)

1. Plant enough to cover pre-orders for most places and some walk-ins- CHECK

2. Build up a "sold out" buzz CHECK

3. Ship another batch to refill channels and ride the wave CHECK

VZW tried that with the Inc, but Samsung already had their own strategy in play- screw their partners for their own products. If Sammy did not have a virtual monopoly on the amoled tech, they would be burning some big bridges. Maybe they still are.

the store near me opens at 7 a.m. thursday, but they also took down my name and said they would hold one for me if i came on thursday. I will still be there by 6:30a.m. though :)

Similar situation here - the store in town is opening an hour early at 8. They expect it to be very busy. The sales rep I spoke to said they are setting up appointments for people who indicate they definitely plan to get one. The rep wanted me to come in in the afternoon, but I wasn't taking chances (after getting burned by the Incredible) so I scheduled for 8am... ;) The rep is out of town on Thursday and wanted to make sure she got credit for the sales, so I'm pretty sure they will be holding two (one for me and my daughter).

LOL that wasn't an analogy that what she makes me do. Half the time we end up fighting about it and eating at McDonalds drive up. LOL

I wasn't knocking your plan it just reminded me of the last time we went out. :D

Ha ha, I just force the girlfriend to pick before we go and I drive so she can't leave. LOL

My plan has changed anyway, the one closer to me is now opening at 8 (an hour early) so I will be heading over there and hoping for the best.

Good move! LOL

I just called my local and closest store again and they are doing NOTHING (so they say) The guy I spoke to said they haven't even gotten many calls about it and foresee no problem. I tried to make appointment but he said he was filled up for the day ( I guess he didn't want to make an appointment for someone else. LOL) If I get there and its crazy and they opened an hour early and are out I'm going to hunt that guy down! LOL Then drive to the other store across town.

Stock aside, I got to my local VZW store at 7am for the Blackberry Storm launch, I think I was 20th in line (only to find out later they were giving out numbers, move me to 40th). They only had 35 or so phones and it still took them until 11am to get through those 35.

Sure, my store was probably pretty inefficient but the point is, lines do exist beyond iPhone and even if there's ample stock, it could be quite a bit of time before you get your phone.

Is the buzz and demand as much as the Storm? No idea. But if I wanted the phone release day, I'd be there at 7am again.

Unfortunately my NE2 is the 21st so I'm hoping second wave is good to me.

edit: though on the plus side, they got 2 additional shipments on release day from the local warehouse. So if the stock is available, chances are you can get a phone first day.

You have to understand though, VZW actually marketed the Storm well. I haven't seen much promo as far as the X goes.

In terms of commercials, there has been basically nothing for the X. The "Rule the Air" is not an X commercial. I know the 4.3" screen will turn away people as well as the Incredible taking away a large chunk of buyers who would have otherwise gone for the X.

so every corp store has "lists", for what? idk. I called a few other stores. I asked "is it first come, first serve?" they said "yes" .

So idk what these lists are for?? they said they would be calling those ppl who are on it the night of the 14th. So would the ppl on the list have priority over the dude thats always first in line thats not on the list??

Called my local store manager today. They will have 10 units according to him. Thats in a 35-40,000 pop. town in Mississippi. I asked if there was anyway to reserve one ( I plan on being there 7:15-7:30 for the 8am opening) and he said he would make me a 8am "appointment" but to still be there early. Don't really know what the hell that means, but hopefully I will be one of the lucky 10.

Its pathetic... all of my employees are asking me... Its this the week you get your new phone... huh... think I am obsessed????!!!

well iam calling my 3 stores wed night.... who ever has the most ill be there 2 hours early...

I'm on one of these "lists" too and no, I think if they had a customer in the store they would sell them the one they supposedly holding for me. So I will have to get there early! Really, I think the 'lists' are like a dibs list for the employees there so they get commission!
