Looking for a certain type of app? Post them here!

Does anyone know of a home screen widget for contacts that I choose that I can call with one click? The stock app works but is laggy and usually I have to push it several times for it to register.

Also a speech-to-text app would be nice (other than Handscent, which is also very laggy on my Eris). My ability to use the on-screen keyboard sucks so I need something like this to work (one that uses the google speek technology would be nice as that usually understands just about everything I say).

1. You know you can add a shortcut to a person on your home screen, right? And you can add a button to just call them, or just text them, or open them in your people app, or even tap them and bring up a menu with all of the above options in it. Just look under shortcuts when adding a new item to the home screen.

2. I've been using

MeContacts works pretty good.

You can select which the the people you call the most often, and with one click either call them or send them a text.

For a speech to text app, take a look at the vlingo beta. Some of the features don't work right, but it is a pretty good app overall. I think it work pretty well for what you are trying to do.

I really need an app that will keep attendance. One that I can enter a list of students and then just check their names if they are present it would be great if it automatically kept up with the date.

I want an app that will allow me to scan using the camera and save in .pdf format so that I can email it if needed.

Does anyone know if theres an app that will turn off 3G unless needed? ie only when checking email, internet, facebook, etc?

There's a widget for that. But you have to turn it back on. It will not come back on when you try to check email or browse the web

hmm well thats no good for a "smart" phone when my old EnV would do that no problem! I wonder if this could be "makable" as an app...

I was a long time Palm user and liked shortcut feature for entering text (i.e. enter "wsr" and it would translate to "weekly status report". I would like to see something similar for Android.

I want an app that can show me a live stream of a webcam from my laptop. In addition, I want to be able to press a button, speak into the microphone, and have my voice come through the laptop speakers (obviously this would require a separate Windows app as well).

Check out IP Cam Viewer. There is also a free Lite version that can only view 2 cams at one time. It is designed to work with IP cameras, but you can set something up on your standard USB web cam to make this work. You just have to download some free software. Good information on the developer's web site.

I'm wondering if there's an app that allows me to listen to my music on my bluetooth ear piece. The app would be able to pause the music if there's an incoming call and resume it when the call ends. Is there even such an app on the market?

Also, is there an app for smart dialing via bluetooth?

As far as i know, you need stereo bluetooth for this to work. But this thread has a "temp" fix... but you have to do it everytime.

When you read this thread, I'm refering to the ** process. After calling **, miusic will start coming through your bluetooth earpiece.

Try Vlingo for the smart dialing. Not sure if it works through bluetooth though.

Thanks :D I'll look into these apps. Hope they work!

Wanted:
Instant Voice Messaging app.
This app should operate exactly like Google Talk, except be a voice conversation. The voice clips should be limited to 10-15 seconds so that buffering doesn't become an issue. The voice files come to your phone and are stored in the SD card. The app would automatically delete older voice messages as space was needed. The default folder size would be around 100MB. With the right compression, this will be plenty of space.

When a new IVM comes in, the file is downloaded and the contacts name (in the list of contacts just like Google Talk) will blink. You just click the blinking name, listen to the IVM, and respond.

I know there are apps out there that allow for voice chatting, but they are more like Skype or a SIP setup. My vision for this app should really be like a text message or Google Talk conversation. Not necessarily a "live" chat, but really just dropping people little voice clip messages instead of typing.

Example: "Hey honey, please pick up some dog food on your way home! THANKS!"

Get it?
Just my thoughts

NOTE: I have tried "Pana.Ma" but it, like others, are too convoluted. I am looking for a one-on-one conversation. Not a public chat forum.
Maybe I should make it? ... hummmmmm

Is there an app that changes the button functions on the eris?

I know Spare Parts can change the button on the END key. But I want to be able to change the function of the send key.
Is there something out there that will do it?

I'm looking for an app for my Desire that will turn GPS on when I select the camera. I like to have the GPS off usually but then forget to turn it on when using the camera and miss out on the geotag. Perhaps a general app that allows me to control when the GPS is on or off depending on which app is running. It would be nice to have the GPS off but have it turn on when I use the camera or maps

Posted this elsewhere on AF but think this is a better suited thread. I would love to see an app that even when my N1 is in silent mode I can allow certain numbers to be allowed to audibly alert me (ringtone). I work nights and have a young family at home, if the wife needs me urgently, but my phone is on silent, I would like her to be able to contact me but the phone remain on silent to all other people. Is this already possible? Is there a place I can leave my idea for developers?

BTW how excited am I about the upcoming release of Froyo. Open source development like Android is far superior to constrained Apple slave developers. I picked the N1 over the Desire as I can't wait to gloat over each latest update! Cheers and hello to all. :D

Great app idea. I wouldn't be surprised if something is already out there.

If everyone had a 7 day free trial then they could just beat the game. probably even a three day trial is to long. I think one day. 2 days at the most.
