Root Looking for new a ROM. Suggestions?

I'm sticking with the plain and simple deodexed FRG22d. I've been using it for a while and I am really happy with it. I do get curious about what other ROMs are like from time to time, so now I'm backing everything up and gonna try out UD 8.

I too am sticking with the " vanilla" deodexed froyo rom, but I do wish the stock kernel allowed overclocking to 1000 instead of 800. Is there also a "vanilla" kernel that allows 1000 hz and already uses the proper voltage? Sorry, I am a total noob...

Yikes, downloaded UD 8 from Source Forge and it left me at the moto splash screen and that was it! Even tried to flash it again from sprecovery and same result. Luckily I was able to get a stock rooted Froyo rom onto the SD card and flash that!! I see that someone else here had the same issue.

I guess UD 8 was not meant for me... :(

You did a full wipe? Someone else had that problem today. Not sure about Source Forge, I got my UD8 from BlackDroidMod. Maybe the file was corrupted...

I downloaded mine from source forge last week with no issues. I did full wipe. So far this is the best ROM I have tried.

I tried UD8 for about 4 minutes.

When I saw the lame 'power control' widget I switched back promptly.

Yeah font changing is cool. But I feel a bunch of CM options are cooler!

CM6 also runs like a champ on my D1..... guess I got a perfect ROM for meeeeeee

Pete is a college student and has a real life. He is also throwing a lot of his resources toward newer phones. BUT there are beta testers for BB0.5 and a release is just a matter of time.

Considering that the last BB release was around *start* summer break and nothing came out all summer, I'm guessing that Moto Droid has more or less become a has been for Pete. Not that college is the issue because a lot happened with roms over summer break but not with BB. This is unfortunate since his roms were flawless. I'm just a little bitter that I donated to BB after watching release after release come out before I rooted and then when I rooted and donated, Moto Droid development went out the window.

I did get UD 8 working and it blew me away! It is the rom I've been looking for. I haven't run into any issues with it yet like I did with CM. And all the extras are simply awesome. This is where my donations are going to go now.

Meanwhile, BB0.4 has become a relic in Android terms... Ultimate Droid 8 MORE that fills the void while we wait for the next Bugless. I am so impressed by UD8 that I'm not really waiting for Pete anymore! When BB0.5 comes out I'll of course flash it... but UD8 will be my backup and the ROM I may just come back to.

I also begin to see The_Chief as a mentor-like person when it comes to rooting. He is like an instigator but in a good way(if there is one). He helped me get through rooting for the first time back when I was completely uneducated and now I root and unroot and flash roms like a boss. I think Chief should be a mod or something for all the help he has given us.

I would also like to add my opinion about roms. I have tried Sapphire, BB, CM, and UD 8. So far UD seems to be my fav considering all the customizations even though CM had almost the same customizations. But CM was crap on my droid but UD is just awesome. Sapphire was kind of like any regular rom to me though as was BB.

Bramsy, you need to let it go man. I got into rooting and custom roms after all the bad blood so I never took sides. Looking objectively at it and having tried both roms (actually, several roms now) UD8 is the hands down winner. You may cut off your nose to spite your face if you choose to do so, but you can't seriously base your decision on 4 minutes of use and a claim that the power widgets are "lame." Come on, how would you respond if I said that CM was a poor rom based on 4 whole minutes of use?

What's the difference between UD8 and UD9.8.0, if any? ROM Manager has 9.8.0, but not 8.

ROM Manager is totally not current when it comes to UD. Download it from the link the chief provided in this thread and install it from SD with ROM Manager. Be sure to do a full wipe.

Since CM doesn't work for crap on my Droid, UD 8 is the clear winner for me!

Gotcha! Man I can see this becoming a pain... LOL I just got my phone how I want it and now I'm thinking of flashing a new ROM. At least I can make backups of my current state ROMs and flash those if I don't like what I try.

Ok, I think I'm gonna try UD8. I like BB0.4, but it sounds like UD8 has more, better customization options.

Another quick question, if I may. I am currently running the ChevyNo1 1.1Ghz LV 7 slot kernel with BB0.4. I have read that some people tend to have issues with some kernels not playing nicely with different ROMs. Is this a good kernel to use with UD8?

My current rom is UD 8 and I use Chevy#1's 1.1 ghz ULV kernel and it runs just fine for what its worth.

Is there any way to know which kernels are more likely to work with a given ROM? I think I have a nandroid of every ROM I have found and now want to go back and match different kernels but would love some direction to guide my quest of trial-and-error.

not that I know of. I'm assuming everybody just does trial and error. Trying different voltages, speeds, and kernels from different developers. Or is that just me?

Well, I flashed UD8 and started having issues with LP+. I couldn't even get it to work properly. However, I have recently found out that LP+ doesn't play nicely with TiBU. I have since reverted to my previous backed up ROM (thank God I have been doing back ups periodically and naming them appropriately).

I was even having problems with LP+ on my backed up ROM because of TiBU. I think I'm going to try UD8 again and just not use TiBU for LP+. However, I am going to give BB0.4 w/ Smoked Glass Theme a couple days before I try UD8 again.

I'll update once I have UD8 installed again and let everyone know what I think about it.

I think once you work through that one issue you will like UD 8. Especially for those of us that find our Droids are finicky with certain ROMs, UD 8 is one of them that just works and thankfully is a very well produced ROM to boot!

I was thinking about it more last night while I was sleeping (is that even possible? LOL :D), and have decided that I am going to flash UD8 again today.

I really wish I could find a nice Glass theme for UD8. I have seen the one on the UD forums, but I would like to have a blue theme instead.

But, yea, I am going to flash UD8 this afternoon and NOT use TiBU with LauncherPro.

Does anyone know how to use TiBU anyways? The items that are listed are red, green, and white. I am assuming that the red ones I DON'T want to restore, but what about the others?

Not to disagree but UD8 hasn't worked well on all Droids. I have run CM6 in the past and now I can't get UD8 to install with any stability. I can run the ROM after install but it gets hung in a bootloop after first reboot. Yes, I did a full wipe first. I have tried muliple wipes of data and cache and Dalvik. I have installed through Clockwork and SPRecovery. I made a nandroid after install of UD8 and even that wouldn't reboot. Over at BlackDroidMod someone is trying to walk me through using the ADB to wipe the phone.
I will admit that I have been running TiBU every time. Has everyone else running UD8 uninstalled TiBU prior to flashing?
