Root looking for official 2.3.5 rom with no bloatware

Wife has desire HD with no use for twitter and Facebook
I know on my old desire you could download a 2.3 from HTC with no crap

Anyone know of a.desire HD version

Non rooted or branded

Unfortunately, I do not think it is possible. I have a link to one of the more recent unbranded RUU's, but it would have the usual HTC bloat-rubbish on it (which I'm guessing is what would already be on the phone if it's non branded)

Never rooted a phone before so not sure which guide to follow

Really don't want to **** this one up as wife will never let me her the end of it

I gathered I need to root first
then titanium backup
Click problems
And option to remove app is in there

It was mine originally I feel sure it came with froyo I got it January Feb time 2011 if that helps

Not to worry... I got mine in April and know that it came with Froyo... you should be able to use the Advanced Ace Hack Kit to root.

The important thing is to read the manual (a couple of times) and, should you have any questions, just ask us and we will try to help you out. Better to ask questions before you get stuck :)

A good place to start looking is this thread, where we helped someone through the process.

(gonna move this thread to the root section, by the way)

Awesome... glad you got it sorted! Painless, wasn't it??!?

(at least you're not gonna have to not hear the end of it ;))

As for removing Busybox/Titanium... you should be ok to remove them (may be better to wait for confirmation on that). Word to the wise... I know that HTC have said that they will not be updating the phone any more but, in case they do, be wary of accepting an OTA :)

Thanks for the help and support on this

Just knowing someone was kind of in the background in case it well belly up was appreciated and reassuring
Although I'm not a complete dunce with gadgets etc (more of a half wit)

I find the process of rooting and flashing Roms a bit daunting and really can't understand why you are forced to have the apps that you have no need for with no ability to remove very perplexing

Thankfully I saw the light last year and bought a galaxy nexus and have never looked back
Nexus 4 will be next for me after Christmas and then wife will upgrade to my galaxy nexus

Only thing she has noticed apart from the bloat gone is the silver ring that you drag up in the sense version it had to the pull up bar but its not the end of the world

Thank you

Malcolm

No worries mate... I understand what you mean about having someone there to offer help... I rooted 18 months ago, when the process was a lot more involved... I had someone to help me out, so ended up sticking around and giving back to the community.

As for flashing, etc... I understand apprehension... perhaps wait until you've got the Nexus 4 and the wife has your Nexus... then just have a play with the DHD... since it won't matter so much.

Not actually that difficult once you get in to it. You now have a custom recovery on the phone which means you can do a full backup before flashing anything... that way, should anything go wrong (won't normally, if you follow the "rules"), you can always restore your backup!! :)

yup! titanium and busybox are user installed apps,so you can delete them with settings/apps/manage apps in the conventional manner. or the uninstall button when viewing them in the play store.

if im understanding correctly, you are still on the downgrade software/firmware,wich has the black curved bar that you slide down to unlock,as the silver ring is a sense 3.0 thing, wich you had with the european 3.12.405.1.

what you may want to do,is reinstall that version, for a couple reasons:

1)the ring will be back,so you wont get hounded about the bar ;) :p (i feel you here- my GF does not accept any kind of change with welcome arms  :D)

2)the firmware will be newer, hopefully resulting in stronger and more stable voice and data signals.

3)you may have to deal with OTA notifications if you stay on the downgrade software.

you can run the factory ruu, then easily add root and recovery to it,download tibu(wich you can use to back up the user apps now),and restore the apps, then delete the bloat from that version.

you can download the ruu from here: Shipped ROMs

it is an .exe file that you run on your PC. just run it as admin, then follow the on screen directions.

if youre interested in doing that,we can go into more detail about installing the recovery after... you wont need the aahk or any tools now that your s-off and supercid. from now on stuff will be easy! :smokingsomb:

ok,here are some directions to flashing the ruu and reinstalling root/recovery if i happen to not be arounf later ;)

ok,start by updating all your apps, and backing up your user apps with titanium backup or equivalent, and then make a backup of your current setup in recovery.

-download the RUU from here:Shipped ROMs

- download a recovery. i personally recomend 4ext: PD98IMG_ace_recovery_ext_4.zip

but,if you prefer clockwork, here is a link for that: cwm-5.0.2.7-ace.zip

-download superuser: CWM-SuperSU-v0.96.zip

*make sure your phone is fully charged

sorry, but this method is going to wipe your data, youll have to resetup afterwards.

-the RUU is a .exe file, simply disable all programs capable of comuicating with the phone(htc sync, pda net, easy tether, etc),and then run the .exe as administrator,if your version of windows permits that.

-follow the onscreen directions and plug the phone in when instructed. it should update all partitions to newest firmware and software. when its done it will reboot.

-after reboot, you can skip all the start up stuff if you want. enable usb storage and put the recovery file onto the root of the sd,and rename it to PD98IMG. take this oportunity to double check the sd card format(right click, the properties) and make sure it is FAT32. just plain FAT,or anything else, and you will need to reformat to FAT32.

-boot to hboot,by either removing the battery for a few seconds,or uncheck the "fastboot" setting in settings/power,then turn the phone off. from a powered off state, hold vol down/power to get to hboot. hboot should find the file, check it,and then ask you to update. after the update, press power to reboot.

-enable usb storage once again, remove PD98IMG from your sd,as it will prevent you from entering recovery. place superuser on the root of the sd

-boot to hboot again, this time select recovery after the writing flashes. when in your recovery, wipe cache and dalvik, and flash superuser. when its done reboot

*you are now rooted on 100% stock european 3.12.405.1 :)

Does the recovery and the super user have to be extracted prior to putting on SD

Just reading through Scotty's guide looking for any potential banana skins
