Root looking for official 2.3.5 rom with no bloatware

Thanks Scotty for quite a detailed explanation there!! :)

a patched hboot protecting itself from overwrite is almost as good as radio s-off,with exception of when a new hboot is needed for new software. the change from gingerbread to ICS is a perfect example of this. without the new hboot, modifications must be made for the new software to run,or a new hboot must be patched that is compatible with the new software. radio s-off wins here, since you can just run the new required hboot and still be s-off. :)

When I originally rooted, I had rooted and gained S-Off and thought that, while I was at it, I might as well get Eng S-Off (had read that getting Eng S-Off was needed for some things - think it was for changing boot animations (which I think you can do even without Eng S-Off anyway)).

As I rooted pre-Gingerbread and have since then gone to JellyBean, do you think it may be worth running the last Gingerbread RUU and then re-rooting the phone, to put the most up-to-date radio/hboot on the phone? I realize that this will mean that I am no longer Eng S-Off, but I don't think it will make a lot of difference to me anyway!

Have been thinking (again) of giving Sense another 2 days (as that's about all I seem to be able to manage) anyway, so may just give true "stock" another go... :)

if im understanding correctly, you are radio soff as well, from running gfree on froyo, correct? if so,then you are still using a fairly old eng bootloader and froyo radio

i do think it would be well worth it to run the newer ruu and get yourself on the newer firmware. you can easily install recovery, then restore your current backup,or flash a different rom after that. :)

if you are only eng s-off,then i think it would be worthwhile to become radio s-offf as well. run the 1.32.405.6 ruu since your phone defaintely came with froyo. you can then either run gfree manually, or run the aahk, wich should work quick and easy since it wont have to downgrade.

let me know if you have any questions,we could even set up a time to gtalk thru it if youd like :)

laSt and not least, you are 100% correct you dont need eng s-off. you can easily install recovery, radios, and splash images as PD98IMG files :smokingsomb:

Yeah... when I rooted, there was a S-Off tool that I used to get Radio S-Off and then a separate (at least, I think it was separate) tool to get Eng S-Off.

I've just been living with the patchy/bad coverage, as I live in a pretty rubbish area for mobile coverage anyway! :)

Will just double check some stuff on my phone and come back to you on that one Scotty :)

When I rooted, with visionary, I had to downgrade to build 1.32 and am sure that it involved getting Radio S-Off :)

Just had a quick look on my phone... it is defo ENG S-Off:

ACE PVT ENG S-OFF
HBOOT-0.85.2007 (PD9810000)
MICROP-0438
RADIO-26.03.02.26_M
eMMC-boot

Done the digging matey... definately Radio S-Off (thought I was). I originally rooted, Radio S-Off'd and then ran another of the S-Off tools to get Eng S-Off.

I should be good to go on the RUU (to update everything to as current as possible), then should be fine in just installing a recovery the same way (PD98IMG) to get root access again then... sorted! :)

Will do mate... am in work at the moment, but will be having a look at this this evening (not sure what time it'll be over your side of the pond). Should be ok, but would you rather messages be on here or Gtalk?

Either way... Its up to you. Gtalk is a lil more efficient :)

You use twrp recovery, right? I can prolly dig you up a twrp pd98img :)

Have been having a bit of an issue with the RUU... doesn't seem to be able to connect with my phone. Think this could well be down to the USB cable though... may have to give it a go tomorrow!

make sure the file is the correct size.... ive had prollems with ruus, and discovered the PC must have stopped before the download was complete

also, try starting with the phone in fastboot,if you havent tried that yet.

whipping up a twrp for you now :)

Scotty, you LEGEND! All sorted :)

ral... you'll be happy to know, I'm gonna run full stock Sense for a while :)

ARHD 6.3.3... Stock sense, with speed tweaks?

But it is interesting to see how this was done. I think a rooted stock is the first step in creating your own ROM.

I flashed the latest RUU and have been on it since last night. I don't even think I'm gonna manage to get through a full day on it though... it's rubbish!

Yeah... figured it out this morning, whilst on way to work!

Previously, TB had a tick in the top right hand corner, that was for batch ops. I thought I'd just try menu and it offered me the batch ops... perhaps that's just the way it works on Sense ROM's... not sure, as I tend to stay away from them.

Pretty much every time I've tried a Sense ROM, I've had one issue or another... think my next phone (when I finally get one) will have to be a Nexus!!
