losing interest in the EVO 3D

Wait... that's gonna be a world phone? wow! That would be neat for Sprint to have

A world phone? It's really got me interested now!

OMG! Just noticed that Next hyperlink. Okay, that DEFINITELY puts the Photon 4G in the lead for my upgrade, if it's really true. Right now, it's all speculation. Funny thing is, I won't even be disappointed if it doesn't come with all the extras being reported because I'll just go back to looking at the EVO 3D.

Nothing states in that post that Codename:Sunfire will be or could be a Sprint phone

What says the Sunfire will be Wimax?

Separately, we’re being told that the event will likely be for a Tegra 2 phone with a large touchscreen and no physical keyboard codenamed “Sunfire” that features WiMAX along with GSM compatibility for global roaming. Putting two and two together, you can imagine that Sunfire is very likely the same phone as the Photon 4G. Wouldn’t it be wild if the Photon ended up beating Verizon’s Droid Bionic — which, you might remember, was announced way back at CES — to customers’ hands?

Last I checked....Summer is June 21st? So if early summer predictions are correct that puts them out around the first or second week of June.

I love the phone and will get it when it comes out as I have pre-ordered it. I have lost no interest and look forward to coming back here just as I have for all my other android forum phones.

I am probably in the minority here but the last 4 days I have been digging out my family and friends from the tornado in Joplin, MO......so getting the phone when it comes out will be a nice reward :D

And then of course there's the question of the prices of the Evo 3D vs the Photon...

I was thinking about the same thing also. With the Photon being a world phone it most likely will cost more. But I think it will be worth it being a world phone. My other question about this phone is does it have a front facing camera? I know thats not a big thing to some, but I like that feature.

I can see that worrying about a new phone is the least of your worries. After all your hard work there it would be a nice reward. I wish you the best helping out there with your friends and family.

June 21st is the Summer solstice, so from a technical standpoint, that's summer. But for the general public, summer is the hot time after spring and is from Memorial Day to Labor Day. Most schools and companies use the latter definition.

By the way, I'm sorry for the trouble the tornado has caused you. I hope all of your family and friends are doing well :-)

My prayers go out to you and all that are suffering from the tornado. Evo 3d will definitely be a great reward.

Thank you......my sister and brother in law were having dinner with their parents and had about a minute to get to the laundry room. 9 people in the room and they couldn't shut the door. Noone was seriously hurt. But you never would have guessed that by the destruction.

I can't wait for this phone to release! I check on here everyday. Right now I have a Optimus V and it is too small a screen so I am coming to Sprint and getting the EVO 3D!

I can't remember which article I read, but there was one that did mention it having a front facing camera. Plus, I don't think sprint has released a 4g phone without one.

The EVO Shift 4G does not have one. That's the only reason I did not buy one for my wife. Don't know why they left it out of that phone. I'm thinking that the Photon would have one. Seems like Sprint is finally headed in the right direction with getting some good new phones.

This is not a Sprint issue.

This is a me-me-me, instant gratification generation issue where people are children in mind or body (or both), and have the attention span of an insect.

It's been 7 weeks or so since E3D was announced. That's it. If one cannot wait a few more days/weeks then convince yourself you'll be happier with another phone and another carrier. There are plenty waiting to take your place on launch day that will be happy they didn't settle just because they lacked a little patience.

Wow, this is one of the best posts I've read on here to date!

I think the reason we haven't heard anything yet is because they want to give other phones chances to sell. I'm pretty sure we are still looking at an early June release. Think of it like this. If I announce a phone that people want a month in advance, how many people would hold out on getting a phone a wait for that phone to come out. Therefore putting a lull in sales because people are waiting for the phone to come out. Look at the nexus, I think it was announced the 27th and was released the 8th. thats only 11 days. I think we should have faith. Not only that they are gonna release another dual core in July from moto. there is no way the would release those phones in the same month. It doesn't make sense in a sales perspective.

It may only be 7 weeks since the Evo 3D was revealed, but what's so irritating is that these companies announce all this great tech and then go silent.

Why is it so difficult for a company to announce a new product as well as the release date and price. Surely they know both of those factors, so why keep quiet and allow people to get bored of waiting?

I suppose it's partly because the manufacturers want to keep themselves in the news, they want to whet the appetite of potential customers and they want their competitors to know they are "in the game".

BUT, wouldn't it be refreshing to get an announcement that told us everything we needed/wanted to know on day one, rather than "release date: soon, price: tbc"

I'm really keen on this phone, but even I'm finding myself looking further forward now that the Holiday has been "leaked"

Just tell us the date and price and what it will be called in Europe!

Excuse my lack of knowledge, I've heard people talk about it but I honestly have no idea. What is a world phone? Why is a world phone so important?

Basically, there are two types of cell phone networks: CDMA and GSM. Sprint is CDMA, but most of the world is GSM. Most Sprint cell phones only have CDMA radios, so you couldn't use them in Europe, for example, even if you wanted to. Therefore, a phone with both radios from Sprint is called a "world phone" -- one where you could, for example, get a international data plan, or use it overseas in an emergency by paying roaming charges.

(Other US carriers, like AT&T, are on GSM already. I'm glossing over some of the subtleties, but that's the basic idea.)

I have also noticed that many phones with minimal time between announcement and release. Today US Cellular just announced a phone to be released May 31st. Yesterday Verizon announced the LG Revolution to be released May 26th. Then there was the Thunderbolt which was officially announced on March 14 with a release date of March 17th.

So companies have gone away from having much time between announcing the release date and the actual release date. I expect something before the event on June 9th.

Oh, that's right. Completely forgot about that. My cousin has the EVO Shift, but never needed FFC, so just blocked it out from memory.

Wtf have I gone blind? Lol sorry

LOL...all good. That 2nd half of the article or add-on was actually up for a while, I just didn't notice it until I posted it here!...HAHAHA.

So hard to keep track of different bits of info that gets leaked and even when reading articles that seem to be stating exactly the same thing, sometimes they add little tidbits that can be completely missed.

And just to clarify, there are certain countries that are CDMA outside of the US (Korea comes to mind and I'm sure there are a few others, but just can't think of them off the top of my head).

On top of that, Verizon is also a CDMA network, for those that weren't aware.
