Help Lost data connection

GrenW

Android Expert
Woke up this morning and the phone had no cell signal just the home wi-fi. Though nothing more of it as my wife's X10 was the same - assumed there was a local mast problem.

Got to work and there was no data connection. No H or G next to the signal bars and no up/down arrows.

I can get it to work slowly if I set the Network mode to GSM only but the WCDMA option (or auto) does not work at all. I've tried re-inputting in the APN settings, deleting them and starting again and restoring them to default. Have switched it off a few times and have switched on and off airplane mode. Nothing works.

All I've yet to try is pulling the battery (gonna do that now) and doing a factory resest.

Anyone have any thoughts? Have been running LeeDroid fine for a couple of months so I doubt it's that, nothing else has changed either.

Are you on Vodafone? They are having problems today after someone broke into one of their buildings and trashed a server.

Yeah, they're working on the problem. People have lost data, text or call access (or a combination of all) this morning. There's a good story on the BBC News website in the Technology section

Working again......was getting cold turkey. Just switched off and on mobile networks and the arrows and lovely 'H' were back :)

Thanks again Eris Ed.....stopped me playing around some more. Knowing my luck I'd have broken the darned thing trying to fix it!

I just upgraded my Infuse 4G to Jelly Bean, and now I have no data connection. WI-FI works great but I cant make phone calls. I get a 'mobile network not available" error every time. Ive tried adding ATT manually but it will not stay. Any ideas on this one Eris Ed??

Hi lasherman, and welcome to AF :)

I doubt we can help much here - different device, different manufacturer, and there's no JB upgrade for the Desire - but it sounds like it's not data but a general lack of cellular connection that you are suffering from. If it was just data I'd suggest checking whether your APN settings had been removed, but that wouldn't stop you calling.

Can you register on ATT at all?

Check your network settings to ensure that the frequency bands are enabled (LTE is data only, so it's 2G/3G you need). But if you can see the network but not register (or remain registered) you could try talking to your network.

It's possible that something has got messed-up by the update, in which case a factory reset might help.

Sorry this is rather generic, but as I say you have a different device, which has received an update that's not available to the Desire (and would be different if it were), so there's no experience of your exact problem here. I'd move your post to your device's forum for better advice, but I see you've already posted there - hope they can help :)
