I may see the problem. I don't see android-sdk-windows\tools in my comand prompt.

Well, you are actually already there!

Do you see "C:\android-sdk-windows\tools>" that I've bolded above? This means that you have already navigated to the directory you need to be in. Unfortunately, the files that are contained in the hack-v4.zip file are not in this folder yet.

So, you will need to locate (or re-download) the .zip from the link in the OP of the XDA thread file to a location that you have easy access to, like your desktop.

Open the .zip file, and you should see 5 files inside. Leave that open for just a moment.

Now, go to the Start Menu -> My Computer. If My Computer is not there, look for it on your desktop and double-click it. If you are using Vista or Windows 7, this will be called "Computer" instead of My Computer.

Double click on your C: drive, then double click the android-sdk-windows folder, then double click the tools folder.

Then in the zip file, left-click and drag each file from the zip file you have open to the second window you have open.

Now, if you still have the command prompt open and see "C:\android-sdk-windows\tools>", then you can run this command at that command prompt.

Code:
runindos.bat

Another tip to get here is to right click on the Start Menu and select "Explore", or if you have a Windows key on your keyboard, press the Windows Key + E

+1 and thanks, tereg! I was reading through some threads over at XDA a while ago and saw references to the "Windows Key" and I realized that I have never (ever!) used it--at least on purpose. :D

I can't tell you how many times I've accidently hit it and uttered a few choice words. I'm good with control key combinations, but never "got" the Windows-key bug. I'll be adding your tip to the troubleshooting guide--thanks!

the problem I have is I dont see the android-sdk-windows\tools that you have in bold. I have been looking at the sdk to see if I missed something. I saved it to my desktop then extracted the files and opened it. I put evileris in( i did not unzip it) I unzipped the hack file and put it in my tools of the sdk.

If I should start over just let me know.

You don't want to unzip evileris. And to find the folder open up my computer and double click on the c drive and then double click on tools.

C:\android-sdk-windows\tools>
I may see the problem. I don't see android-sdk-windows\tools in my comand prompt.

you should try to get it back to that, because when you ran the "dir" command from here, you were already inside C:\android-sdk-windows\tools, which is why there wasn't anything resembling "android-sdk-windows" in the listing. You were already at the directory you needed to be.

Double click on your C: drive, then double click the android-sdk-windows folder, then double click the tools folder.

I redownloaded the sdk files and installed on my desktop.
I am back to the place I was earlyer in admin comand prompt.

I am now trying to find the file above to drag the hack files to.

ok, I have the hack files in the tools folder of sdk. I also have evileris in the tools folder of sdk it is still zipped.

in the command prompt I put in runindos.bat and it dos not recognize it as an internal or external.

we are half way there. What does the command line look like? It should appear like this... (The red text will appear white)

Code:
Microsoft Windows [Version 6.1.7600]

Just so I'm clear, you re-downloaded the Android SDK and extracted the folder inside that .zip file to the desktop, correct? Meaning, you have a folder on your desktop right now called android-sdk-windows. And it was in this folder that you put the contents of hack-v4.zip and your Evil Eris ROM .zip file into.

If yes, then I would recommend moving or copying that folder to the root of your c: drive so that it overwrites the android-sdk-windows folder that is currently in your c: drive.

So, I will go through a copy. Right-click on the android-sdk-windows folder on the desktop and select "Copy". Then, open My Computer/Computer, and then double-click on your c: drive.

When you have the c: drive open, go to the Edit menu and select "Paste". It will warn you that a folder already exists by the name android-sdk-windows, and will ask if you want to overwrite the folder. You will want to say "Yes", or if at any point you see a button that says "Yes to All", you will want to click that.

Back at your command prompt. Before you run runindos.bat in the command prompt, you are going to need to push the evileris zip file to the root of your SD card. So, after you have copied the folder as I explained, and you are at a command prompt that looks like this:

C:\android-sdk-windows\tools>

you will want to do the following commands

Code:
adb push EvilEris3.0.zip /sdcard
runindos.bat

I am assuming you downloaded Evil Eris 3.0.

I will do that as soon as avd is done updating. I cant get sdk back on my desktop untill then. just to move it again.

I could not find edit menu in the c drive. can i just download to the c drive or does it have to be in the edit menu?

I could not find edit menu in the c drive. can i just download to the c drive or does it have to be in the edit menu?

When I said edit menu, I meant where there's File Edit View Favorites, etc. near the top of the window

You can download it straight to the c: drive though, if you'd like. That would work too. What I was suggesting was just one option of doing it that way.

the sdk is in my local C. I tried to push the evil eris to my sd card and it cant find the path. I drank some coffee so I am ready for a long one.

Make sure that USB Debugging is turned on on the phone.

Press the Menu button -> Tap Settings -> Tap Applications -> Tap Development, make sure that the USB Debugging checkbox is checked.

After you do that, I would run this command at the command prompt

Code:
adb devices
You want to see something resembling this:

Code:
List of devices attached
HTxxxxxxxxxx device
The x's will be a series of letters and numbers.

If you see it, then you should try the adb push command again

Code:
adb push EvilEris3.0.zip /sdcard

EvilEris3.0.zip needs to be the exact name of the .zip file you downloaded when you downloaded EvilEris and moved it into that tools folder.

Im as happy as a little school girl. lol it is rebooting and in recovery. you guys are the greatest. I should have gone to itt tech insted of getting my water license. this stuff is just so cool.

do I push evil eris? my phone is in sleep mode should the screen be on?

Now plug your phone into your computer via USB cable and make sure it's on. On your phone, go to the notification bar at the top, and make sure it is on Charge Only. Then type the following commands in your command prompt (on your computer):

Code:
adb push recovery.img /data/local/
adb push flash_image /data/local/
adb shell chmod 777 /data/local/recovery.img
adb shell chmod 777 /data/local/flash_image
adb shell rm /data/local/rights/mid.txt
adb shell ln -s /dev/mtd/mtd1 /data/local/rights/mid.txt
adb reboot

Then once your phone is finished starting up again, type this command:

Code:
adb shell /data/local/flash_image recovery /data/local/recovery.img

This method is borrowed from here:

Oh ok you already did those commands then? Cool

Now for flashing new ROMs, just follow the instructions as provided when you download them and you should be all set :D
