Root Lost pics and video!!

I am new to root. I was mounting my phone to a friends PC to share some pics and noticed that I couldn't find my gallery anywhere. There were a few pics from another file that I was able to transfer from the phone to PC, but when I unplugged the phone from the desktop I went in to the gallery and 90% of my pics and video were gone! I live far away from my daughter and don't get to see her that often, and that very day we had been to the California Science Center. I had so many great pics and video from the outing that it just made my heart sink. Now I'm afraid to mount my phone to anything, (PC, or CVS pic developer.) Luckily I had a Titanium back up and did a restore. When I opened my gallery I had them all back. Thank God for restore! Is there something I'm doing wrong? Has this happened as a result of rooting? Was it because I just pulled the cord out without properly dis-mounting(never had to before rooting)? I really need to get these into an album eventually. Can anyone help??

I've never had a problem when not unmounting first but I've seen other people have the same thing happen to them when not unmounting first rooted or not. Backups are great.

You may want to periodically move pics to the PC for safe keeping if you hold them near and dear. Phones and memory cards can fail. A multi-pronged backup approach is always best and vital if you're particularly conerned about certain data.

@iowabowtech,
What is a multi-pronged back-up? Also, I'm a little gun shy about plugging my phone in to anything after it deleted my pics and video last time. Like I said in my first post, I couldn't find my gallery once I was mounted which makes me think that they were deleted the moment I plugged in to the PC.

Guessing it was a true fluke, easy for me to say but I wouldn't worry about hooking up USB. I meant its not always enough to rely on titanium. If you have stuff you can't afford to lose, a secondary backup to the PC is necessary because SD cards can fail and since both nandroids and titanium back up to the card...

You can either transfer pics etc to the PC and/or transfer copies of your clockworkmod and titanium folders to the PC periodically to make sure you keep your stuff even through the worst case scenario. Multi-pronged.

That's standard, rooted or not you can never access your gallery when plugged into the USB, it's not that they're erased, you just can't access it. What happened in your instance I don't know though.
