Root Love my HTC EVO 4G!!!

The phone is clean, so I still need to create a nandroid BU? Ort will the the nandroid serve as my back after all is said and done once the root is complete?

You always want to make a backup of the stock rom. Also a good idea to keep one of the current rom too. It's a good idea to keep a copy on the stock backup and one other on your pc too.

When you mack the backup you will have several options of what to backup. You should check the first 3 and also wimax.
 
One you're done with the backup you'll be ready to flash the rom. To my knowledge you haven't selected and downloaded the rom and any needed files to go with it. You will need to place them on the sd card and not in any folders.
 
Once Rom is DL put on sd card while in the phone(so I will have to mount it) Or unmount card from phone and do it thru my pc with adapter then mount back into phone?
 
I would first start off with MikG....
Download it to your computer, then plug your phone into the computer. Mount the device as usb and transfer the rom to the sd card.
Unmount the phone, boot into recovery, wipe everything 3 times except the sd card, then flash the rom. :)

You can skip the nandroid backup for now before the rom flash, as you have done that already :)
