Loving the EVO (Praise thread) :-)

I have found my self over the past few months really looking to upgrade to one of the new dual core phones that have come out lately and was really hopping the now iPhone 4S was going to have a larger screen.

But as I've looked into other phones I can't help but see no reason to upgrade. No doubt the dual cores are a nice upgrade, but I don't see the need or want to drop $200-$300 for what seems to be a marginal upgrade in my mind.

Am I the only one feeling this way?

My only problem right now is my phone is lacking serious internal memory and I keep getting the low storage message and Sprints network is really sucking right now both 3g and 4 g wise with spotty reception and I live right around 5 towers.

But other than that I still think the Evo compares very nicely to the other devices out right now. Hopefully come June when my sprint contract is up LTE will but up for Sprint and maybe 10 MP cameras will be out and 2.0 dual core phones will be ready :) Just hoping.

Sorry felt like sharing.

I think I am in your same boat, I thought I wanted to upgrade to the dual core devices out right now but I don't think I do. Sprint service at my home is just not cutting it anymore and I'm sick of waiting for better 4g coverage. I may jump ship and get a dual core phone with actual better '4g' speeds. I am currently eligible for a full upgrade but don't think I'll do it.

The wife has serious issues with my evo. She's never found a worthy apponent....until I got the evo.

I am pretty happy with my evo these days, I can overclock it 1190 MHz without it ever rebooting on me, full set of customs icons that match pretty well. And a gingerbread aosp rom that is fully functional. So I wanted to say thanks to everyone on the forum for pointing me in the right direction to get everything done that I wanted to get done while putting this all together. I have Savaged Zen rc4 with the latest SBC kernel, which is smooth as can be and looks slick with a customized go launcher set up with cyanogen mod icon pack. Circle battery mod icons hooolms g11 headphones and GPS icons, minimal magic theme running ( which supposedly theme worker doesn't work on this rom, but I got it). GPS working 4g working. I thought somethings I would never figure out on here but I did thanks to everyone here and at xda so thank you, I wish I knew everyone's names so I could thank them individually. But they know what posts they've pjtvup I'm sure. If anyone has any questions about these mods I've mentioned just ask me and I'll pass on what I've learned to you, thanks again.

I am happy with my EVO. I got the extended battery, and carry an extra one with me. Put a Seido case on it. I am pretty rough with my phones. It goes every where. My wife loves her IPHONE. But my EVO RULES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have had my OG EVO for almost 18 months, bought it outright from Sprint as I was not eligible for a upgrade credit at the time and had the horrible HTC Touch Pro 2 (Worst phone I ever had). The EVO had been amazing in the time I have had it. Rooting it and installing ROMs really pushed the hardware to the max. With the new EVO LTE announcement I was excited to jump on it, as I have my upgrade credit from Sprint.

But all last week, I have been traveling for work, and I have to say, my OG EVO kept up with every demand I put on it. GPS, Wifi Tether, Camera, switch batteries on the fly, I almost see Zero reason to upgrade. As cool as the new Evo sounds, my OG EVO still rocks pretty hard.

This was my view last year when the 3VO came out. I could not justify buying the 3VO when the OG is still a great phone. My wife and I both bought the OG. IT is still a workhorse. I have never had a phone this long. I bought my wife the 3VO when it came out and she returned it. She wanted the OG back

Running cm 7.2 rc1, Mason kernel. 15 rc3 SBC fso, with vipermod set to extrememod +25v, and papasmurfs tweaks, dta2sd ext. 4 deadline scheduler, and many other mods I can't think of. Everything works flawlessly, and I don't think I will be getting a new phone anytime soon (no reason). So with all of that said praise evo I love this phone. I don't even have a PC or a tab, this is it!

I never thought I would be on sprint either but now I can't think of any other phone I would rather have . the service has been fine and I don't have any dropped calls like at&t .

there is a new evo in town!!! Evo LTE

that is true.. no LTE...

but on my OG evo.. i dont have wimax on.. and I live in the biggest wimax area.

so... the phone itself does bring a great experience

I only have this unit for less than a month. (I know I am really late in discovering this wonder) This is my first android unit cause for a long time I have been using symbian, windows mobile and IOS for a while (N97mini, Omnia II and Iphone 3G) All I can say is I am really amazed about how this phone functions well.

My original plan was to just have this as a multimedia player and a backup phone. But then I got more than I expected. MiKG, Amon RA and AnthraX blew me and my " 4S " friends away. ( Grrrr... I really hate apple :/ )

Its kind of sad to see it going away. I am interested in getting its successor which is the Evo 4G LTE but I really don't think the price is worth the upgrade. I guess I will be with this unit for a while til I find something that will steal my heart :)

yeoliji.. welcome to: AF, android, evo, rooting..

you are lucky to have the EVO for your first android phone.. it is a great starter and well supported by the Development community.

When you factor in assurion purchases between me and my wife we've bought at least six. Mostly me, I work heavy equipment and even the mighty Defender is no match for a 100,000 lbs compactor, or even a little skid steer. On the plus side I've never had to unroot it when I sent them back.

It's a great phone I bought one for the wife as a media player and PDA tool. She doesn't want her phone to be smarter than her so she keeps a cell that is traditional as well. It was fairly easy to root thinking back as compared to my Casio and other than the charging port being quirky and paying 4 dollars for a battery with twice the life I have had no complaints thus far best 40$ I have spent in awhile if it worked on verizon I would've bought one when my Casio commando got run over by a semi. But it did make me buy the droid incredible 1 which was also 40 shipped used thanks chubbies on ebay! If the dinc is half as useful as the og evo ill be ecstatic.

Overall I give this phone an 8 out of ten.
Not lte
Won't read 64gb sd card
WiMAX radio is getting fazed out.
Those are the only things I find fault in but then again it was introduced three years ago and back then none of those points were issues. So overall awesome for its day and great now. I would recommend to any android fan to sell your iPod and buy one of these to replace it. You will probably make enough money in the deal to take the family out to dinner. And have a very user friendly media player/PDA. Really great. Thanks ocn and mike for showing me the lite

I use mine as a desk clock and alarm. With airplane mode on it will last more than two weeks (around 14 days) on its original battery. Even though I have another phone, I still love my ol' evo.
