Help Low light = gradient banding?

I've asked my store (a local third party reseller) to let me just look at the next one they get in and compare it to mine. Honestly, I know it is there but it really doesn't bother me that much. My fear in swapping it out is that I would end up with a better screen (which would be nice) but I'd wind up with one of the other issues that some people seem to have that I don't now - or maybe the batery won't last as long (everyday seems to get better, yesterday I got 16 hours (nothing turned off, nearly all Wi-Fi) with 2 hours of screen time and still had 20% left!

Screen issue or not, this is hands down my favorite phone!

Set wallpaper to black or go to a pure black screen with no icons on it. Bring up the "recent apps" and clear it out so that the overlay is blank. I notice heavy banding when the app is brought up over a pure black screen. Anyone else notice this?

edit: have to look at it in a very dark room. didn't notice it much in a light room.

But... how? The pixels are off when displaying blacks..

try it, i didn't notice it until i was looking at the phone in a completely dark room. Before bed with the lights out. Didn't notice it in the light but in a dark room it is certainly there.

I definitely have mild banding in certain room light+background combinations but it seems lie everyone has some. I want my purchase to be as perfect as anyone and I don't want banding either... but it seems like seeking out a certain wallpaper and shutting myself in a dark room is like doing gymnastics to make it visible.

As long as I don't see it in everyday use, I'm gonna try not to worry with it and try to enjoy my phone. It really is fantastic overall (I don't have any WiFi issues, my battery life is 17 hours, etc, etc. If I exchange it, I may clear up the light banding but may not be so lucky with the other issues)

I have the same issues - First I thought my display is faulty - so i exchanged it and it's the same. The first phone had a more red tint and the second one is slighlty more green. On low light i can see grainy grey particles especially on white backgrounds. Looking at the facebook website, i first thought facebook is now using light textures on their backgrounds.

I'm quite dissapointed because i've been reading a dozen reviews on how great the screen is. Are people blind who are writing these reviews? A phone in this price range should not have this kind of issue...

Exactly....................just got back from my VZW store. The guy came over to see what i was doing. I was looking at the new LG Spectrum. Not 100% sure about the phone but the screen is absolutely incredible!

He had a Galaxy Nexus and there was one on display next to the Spectrum. I went to Google Search and typed in the single word "white" then chose"images"...........clicked on the first white image. We did this with 4 phones at once, both Galaxy Nexi, the Spectrum, and my Droid X.

All phones displayed the white screen as perfectly white....(the screen being in portrait mode and the white covering only the middle third of the screen). When we pinched and zoomed the white to FILL the entire screen on the 4 devices, the VZW guy was taken back by how GRAY the Galaxy Nexi screens became while the Droid X and LG Spectrum remained 100% white.

Again, this should NOT happen on a top device like this! Never mind the banding issue, it will NOT display white as white full screen. All screens were set to 100% brightness.............NO auto brightness set at all.

Is this a reason to return the phone? Obviously your choice. It did not make it a deal breaker for me but added to the other issues and bugs that finally made me return it.

End of RANT...........
