i would try a different kernel. try the tiamat kernel, they are amazing.

Is there an easy way to flash a new kernel ? I have kernel manager lite but it doesnt seem to work. Whats step by step procedure to flashing a kernel. I can never seem to flash stuff over even though i place it on my sd card on my pc. And after i place stuff on my sd card ... i go into recovery and look for it under sd card and never see it. Easy " flashing roms/kernels " step by step procedure would help. Please be thourough as i am newby.

so here are the steps on how to download and flash a kernel:
1.download the tiamat kernel or a kernel of your choice.
2.transfer the file over to the root (no folder) sd card. you can put into a folder if you like. just make sure to note where it is.
3.go into recovery and make a nandroid backup
4.wipe dalvik cache and cache
5.select install from sd card and find the file that you moved to the sd card.
6.select the file and reboot after it is done installing.

after that is done i would look into getting setcpu from the market as well.

also please read this:http://androidforums.com/evo-4g-all-things-root/389360-kernels-dummies.html. it has a ton of info on kernels.

you can get most kernels from here:http://androidforums.com/evo-4g-all-things-root/284413-roms-kernels-download-page.html

everytime i put a rom or kernel on my sd card ( no folder ) it never shows up in recovery mode !!!

do you have room on your card?when i put files on my card they always show up on the bottom in recovery. how are you transferring them? in windows you should see that they were copied over by seeing it on the window of your sd card.

I just drag the file from the downloads over into the sd card. i see it on there everytime i pull my card up on windows. In my phone i dont see the file though.

PC ... Im not extracting them or anything. Maybe im overlooking something. Give me step by step directions on where the kernel or rom should be when i look it up in the overclock / recovery menu. Im looking under the sd card files and see all my other stuff... just none of my roms/kernels. I did however flash over " Wimax notifier " yesterday and it worked ... even though i didnt see it under the sd card either on the phone.

so when you select "install .zip from sd card" scroll down. the things at the top are usually folders and towards the bottom are the files. the files should be in alphabetical order. so the tiamat kernel should be toward the bottom of the list.

yep ... what i thought too. They never show! I have CM7 rom right now and it doesnt even show on there. Should i load Tiamat evo or tiamat evo sbc ?

i used the tiamat sbc kernel and i was getting anywhere from 18-35 hours off charge with moderate to heavy use. of course YMMV.

Your model may vary ? LOL. Had to look at that for a second. I might try loading Kernel manager pro and see if i can flash that way ($3.99 grrrrr).

i thought it was your mileage may vary. at least that is what the urban dictionary says it means. lol

and i would be careful with the kernel manager. i just do not trust them to wipe very well and it could cause problems. just make sure to do a nandroid backup before using it.

I loaded kernel manager and clicked on the kernel i wanted to download and flash ... it did. Then i still cant locate it in the sd card. Is it saving it in some file as a different name ? Frustrating.

i'm not sure where kernel manager saves the file to flash. it might be in a folder on your card. but i'm not sure what the folder is called. never used the app.

ok so here is how you switch recoveries:
1. download this:PC36IMG_RA_2.3.zip
2.rename it by erasing the "_RA_2.3" in the name so that it is just PC36IMG. do not add a .zip as windows hides extensions and you will end up with the name PC36IMG.zip.zip which will not work.
3.transfer the file to the root of your sd card (not in any folder)
4.power off then press and hold power+vol down
5.hboot should see the file if it is named correctly (PC36IMG) and is in the right place (not in any folder, just the root of the sd card).
6.select yes to update
7. before you reboot make a nandroid backup first.
8.go into recovery and select "backup and restore" and select backup
9. keep the first three checked and also check wimax as well.
10.once a nandroid backup is done reboot

congrats you now have an awesome recovery!

also note that your previous nandroid backups will not work with amon ra. or vice versa.

Ill try it in a few minutes... I loaded that the other day actually because I half ass bricked my phone. I do appreciate your help ... sorry to bug ya!

i was able to flash tiamat sbc via kernel manager ... it booted up fine and flashed it ... but now my phone keeps rebooting every few seconds on its own .....
