How much space do you have? Does it give you an amount left? You could try cleaning out old SMS/MMS, Call logs, Emails, Cache, and maybe Market Data. See if that helps free up some space.

I have been having the same problem with my Evo, and have been suffering through it for well over a month now. My phone is stock, and not rooted. It won't even let me install an app I paid for, which is only 72.02KB in size, however it says I have 824MB available on my SD and 36.67MB internal storage available. Also, to try and free up some more space, I keep trying to delete some old texts, but every time I try, my messaging app (the one that came on the phone) force closes, or freezes on me. My phone isn't as great as it used to be, since the last update...

Try to clear from manage applications the cache you may need to clear data for the messaging program. Also try turning of phone and pull battery keep out for like five minutes then reboot

I try everything you guys said...cache i used the app history which clear call logs sms messages...i move everything to sd card and or deleted the app turn off and back on but wont go away....

don't know if this will help do anything more than you have done but it always works pretty well for me

1 click clear its free.

Good luck hope this works only other thing that I would know is A) A Factory Reset or B) root the phone. 1 have close to 140 apps on my rooted phone and still have like 150 meg storage. Most of my stuff is on sdCard (that is a bit trickier than the stock way)

it comes back for no reason now shows up whenever it wants too..

Thats strange. I wish I could do more to help but short of rooting or a factory reset I'm not really sure what to do. if you have cleaned all your cache and history then there really are not any more options.

My phone has still been having the same problem too. Nothing seems to help it. I do appreciate you taking the time to try and help, though. I'm thinking about just calling customer service, as this has been ongoing for well over a month, I can't even install a tiny app that I paid money for.

customer service will probably have you do a factory reset. I really don't understand why they didn't put more memory in this thing to start with. Sorry I was of little help :(

I think you're right argedion, it sounds like the caches are full, and won't let the phone swap out downloaded content. Let me see if there is an app that will clear out both the cache partition and the dalvik cache, that might help.

I found an app called Advanced User Toolbox, that can clear the caches. It shows it can clear the dalvic cache as well, but I can't tell if you need root access to do so, it isn't clear.

Try it out and see if it helps. :)

It needs root permissions
