Help "Low on space" phone/application storage notification

well I tried deleating all cache and alot of the apps data, even linked it with my pc and deleated alot of stuff, uninstalled alot of apps, basically tried everything under the sun and still I am getting that message when I try to install something from the market.

so, I should probably wait for 2.3 to become availible for the infuse, see if that fixes it and if it don't then its time for a factory reset correct?

This all is very frustrating, brand new android and its already glitching out.

What specifically does it say when you try to download from market?

If for instance you had 80mb DATA in facebook and cleared that out you should have this problem again for a while.

You went to menu>settings>applications>manage applications> then grouped by size? the only thing you need to worry about is 'clear data'. In my experience cache doesn't help and uninstalling ONLY helps if you uninstall something that has a lot of 'data'

Sorry I didn't realize the first time, but you're in the wrong forum. This is about the HTC Droid Incredible, and is generally an Incredible specific issue. You want to ask for help here Samsung Infuse 4G - Android Forums. They are more likely to know what's causing you're problem and how to fix it.

I did a quick search there, and this (http://androidforums.com/samsung-infuse-4g/397372-error-download-apps.html) seemed like the only related thread. So try going to settings>manage applications>market and click unistall updates, and see if that helps.

He has the samsung infuse, so is unlikely to have this particular issue (especially if he cleared a lot of data already).

My apologies, I did not realize I was in the wrong forum. Ugh, coulda saved hours reading this whole thread last night lol! thank you.

I'm guessing they're not gingerbread sprinkles tho

Verizon Support never has a clue about anything.

I called support yesterday about a low memory message. After getting nowhere with dude #1 I was xfered to a tech specialist (or something like that). She was clueless; clearly had no idea what android was (or just a thin awareness). Anyhow, after a few minutes of worthless back and forth, I said I'd just wait for the update that's coming. She said that if I got a new phone, with dual core, it should help. i said that I was pretty sure a dual core CPU wouldn't help with the memory issue. She argued. i thanked her for her time and we hung up.

Calling CSR is insanity for any reason IMO, I'm surprised they didn't just tell you to factory reset:)

Hi All, just a couple quick questions:

I got this dreaded message over a year ago, and having little understanding or recourse back then, I went ahead and did the factory reset, and tried to be a little more cognizant of what was causing it since then. So I've tried to stay on top of the problem this time around and have done pretty much what everyone has said in this thread (thanks for that!!)

By now I'm rooted and rommed and loving life, but have noticed that:

a) it's still the HTC mail App that is sucking up the most data, currently at 30 Mb. I religiously keep everything clear in the inboxes and junk folders, so I'm not too sure where the 30 Mb could be coming from? Am I missing something? If I clear data, I'm going to lose all my carefully crafted signatures, correct? (I use it a lot for work)

b) If I get Not Enough Space, can I move the HTC mail App to that partitition? (also I realize that K-9 mail app doesn't have this problem, but I really do like the look and feel of the stock app, so I'd like to keep it if I could, although I did install K-9 on my wife's Eris just for this reason)

thanks,

Don

Pick any page at random (lets say 12) and read it. I'm sure it will both explain the problem and how to counter it.

hmmm ... I tried page 1 and page 15 ... Let me try page 12. My expectations are very low.

hmmm ... cleared tweetdeck data ...

installed app2sd ... it's funny because when u run it it says it can move itself to SD ... but it really can't ...

Short term fix, clear cache from larger apps in settings>manage apps. You can also clear data from larger apps were you won't miss data saved on the phone (facebook, netflix, and other apps where it would just download the data it needs).

Longer term fix requires root, and either installing Not Enough Space (an app on the market), or possibly trying various roms that are less susceptible to the problem (although they are not free of the problem). Supposedly the rom Gingerbread rom/update will let address the problem by moving larger apps to the sd card (because it moves the library file to the sd card as well).

Alright, i know there are a tons of threads on this but i feel i've exhausted all the forums and still can't find an answer.

I'm getting the dreaded 'low memory error' on my droid incredible, and have done everything, cleared caches, mail client, peep, dialer storage, etc...

Still comes back. And now when I clear all the usual suspects, i.e. cache, data, nothing happens, even after a reboot.

What am I missing? Is there a fix for this??

Are you using any/all of the below?

-HTC Mail (yes/no/how many accounts?)
-Netflix?
-HTC Facebook with Contacts sync?

If you use all of the above, you're screwed. As for a fix, the GB update handles data differently for apps that are moved to the SD card, so this will greatly alleviate the problem for you. You can either wait for the official OTA, or root and flash a custom ROM based off it.

Thanks for the info.

HTC Mail - not any more, used to have a IMAP acct on it, it's removed now
Netflix - not anymore, installed it and used a couple of times, then deleted
HTC Facebook with Contacts Sync - Yes i'm currently using that

Welp, that sucks, i hear GB is supposed to drop this month, correct??

Open your settings, go to applications, then manage applications. Find HTC Mail (or just mail), select force close, then clear data. Even if you removed the account(s), there is likely old data there. Clear it to be sure.

Many apps don't remove their data when uninstalled. Re-install Netflix, force close, clear data, then uninstall.

Your call on using FB contact sync. If it works for you, use it. For me, it added too much clutter. And yes, GB is slated for this month.

Yep, have done that more times than I can remember. So I have the error now, and I've cleared out the Mail app already, there is no data to clear. So that tells me it's something else.... What that is exactly is the question....

Try moving all your apps to SD. I had the same issue today along with a gmail sync problem. Moved all apps to SD to clear up extra space and all is working again.

Are you sure you aren't genuinely low on space on either the apps partition or the sd card?

Second, the incredible has 1GB of ROM, not 512MB. Which means you have about 750MB for apps (748mb to be exact).

WOW!!! I wish that this was a thread I checked back on a lot sooner, but I don't have this issue. Probably cause I thought I'd get it if I came close to 512 mb in the 'Phone Memory's' 'Available Space'. I need to ask, though, for someone to show me where I can find this piece of information. Every source I check, including HTC, says this, "Memory Flash 8GB + 512MB/RAM 512MB."

I'm not saying that I still think I am right, cause this entire thread seems to agree that we have 1 GB of ROM/App Storage with 748 MB available. But how did you find that out; through developing?

P.S: sorry if it's a bit off topic...
