LP back to Sense?

I'm considering tnrying out Launcher Pro. If I end up not liking it, and switch back to Sense, will my home screens be the way I left it or will I have to re-set up all of it?

Just save the profile of your sense settings, and when you clear LP default and switch back, it'll still be there, or as a saved profile. It works the other way round if you wanna switch back to LP.

You mean save it as a scene? And will my icons stay the same if I change them using folder organizer while using LP

Yeah, save scene. Icons should also stay same, yeah. However, I recommend saving your scene with new name, then changing scene to blank, AND THEN apply LauncherPro. I think I read it cuts down on CPU/BATTERY resources, with sense only showing a blank slate.

As long as you don't wipe your phone, your sense scene should still be saved.

hmmm think im gonna quickly switch back...wipe my sense and do that lol

Ive recently switched from LP to ADW ex. I also run a Sense ROM, but havent used sense as default home for well over a year. The customization options are worth the money alone, and I'd say ADW and LP are definitely on par.

Sense is way down there.

right thats it...switched to sense to fully clear it and the data...everything...then switched back...was getting a cold sweat using it hahahah

Hey, So is there a tutorial on how to use Launcher Pro? Some of the basics I get fine. But I see people with custom docks at the bottom and have NO clue on how to do that.

It couldn't be easier. You set the number of docks you want in the settings, you can also set a background. Then it will create + icons for you. Long press on them and set the icon, what it does and whether you want a swipe gesture setting. Simples!

Yeah, I actually found that a bit after posting that, but what about making your own custom dock background?

I have tested out LauncherPro and ADW Launcher and I am thinking about moving back to sense unless someone can help me fix the niggles.

On both Lpro and ADW - if I long press on the home screen and add an application shortcut - to eg. the Mail App or the Messages app - whenever I set a new message or email, it doesnt update properly. There is no (1) to let me know that I have a new mail/message.

The only way I know is because of the notification bar.

For lpro - I have checked the option to show missed calls, emails etc.

Any ideas?

I take it Lpro doesnt have themes either like ADW?

Cheers

Go to the Android Themes sub-forum, there's loads of dock and icon people in there and threads how to do and people making them for others.

There is an option in the settings to tick, that shows the unread count, same for calls and emails.

Look at the FAQ in my sig

EDIT: Never mind, I see you've already visited :) In fact, I think it was your post that made me finish the LP guide! It was started a while back but never got round to completing it.

Yeah I have all those ticked in Lpro - it seems to work in the dock, but not when I manually add the messages shortcut to the home window.

i.e. the messages shortcut doesnt have the (1) in it but the dock one does..

Those options only work for shortcuts in the dock, as you say.

So what is the advantage of LP over Sense or is there not one, but it's simply about customisation?

Occassionaly I get curious about rooting and installing 2.3, etc, but so far I've shied away from doing anything like that to my phone as I don't want to mess it up! From what I've seen of vanilla Android it's dull looking compared to what HTC offer.

LP simply has more options to personalise things, including number of Homescreens, dock size, appearance and fuction. There's another app called Widget Locker that lets you change your lockscreen and add custom sliders and widgets to the lockscreen. Using Widget Locker and LauncherPro together lets you change the entire look and feel.

I felt the same as you about rooting too, but the need to create more internal storage made me learn about it and make the change. Best thing I did to my phone!

Scrollable docks did it for me. The sense thing, with ^ Phone + was rubbish. You never used + as you long pressed on the screen. With LP you get a 5 icon dock, which can be scollable up to 15, which can then have swipe actions. So 15 docks, with 30 actions. Leaves the screens empty and minimalist. Most my apps are organised using App Organiser. So a dock icon will open a folder and a swipe will action the most popular from that folder. Then i need only 3 screens and can enjoy my wallpaper. :D

LauncherPro is also feels a lot quicker/smoother than Sense. Scrolling through the app drawer is a lot less jumpy and homescreens generally feel more responsive, even after you've added a bunch of widgets and customised everything. Add WidgetLocker and you've practically got a whole new phone.

Also, if you want Mail/SMS/Call icons that show missed messages/calls, I recommend SMS Unread Count.

So I made the switch the other day. I was out of town when I did it. In those couple days before that, I discovered widget locker, and folder organizer as well. My friend got a Desire a few weeks after I did. We both love it to death. So I called him (while out of town) and told him when I get back he's got to look at my phone. Of course he asked why. I simply said I changed it, and left it at that. Yesterday I finally got to show him. Needless to say........I've changed his world forever. We spent the rest lf the night with him asking him how to do things, and me teaching, and him EXCLAIMING TO THE HEAVENS how I rocked his world.

I think he was impressed.

I've just switched back.

How I'd ended up setting up my screens in LP can almost 100% be replicated in Sense, apart from the dock of course. As I had the 3x5 dock set up, I was forever scrolling the wrong way for what I wanted, so it was no easier than just having a few icons on one of the other home screens. ETTO eh?

I'll probably just leave my phone as is, though I am curious about rooting. My only worry is that I want to be certain I can restore the phone to its out of the box setting if I needed to. If I ever sell it I need it to be factory fresh, not customised beyond recognition!
