Root LTEVO ROOTING FOR DUMMIES {The Complete Guide}

Thanks for a prompt reply. I do, however, have a question. I am on step 13 and Enabled USB debugging on my device. The next step says to run RabieShot.exe as admin. Where do I right click and run as admin?

I am looking through the rom list and obviously, as a very first time flasher, I have no clue as to which rom and which kernal. I prefer to stay on sense and would like something that is stable and works all the time. Any suggestions for a first timer? Thanks again

check out the staff picks there is some great suggestions for roms to check out. http://androidforums.com/evo-4g-lte-all-things-root/614073-list-utilities-roms-kernels.html

i think the winners here are meanbean and viper for sense.

i not really into sense at the moment so i'm currently root box which is a great rom, but i love pacman as well. both are aosp roms. i highly suggest that you check them out.

I think I need some help. I am on the last step and it says
Racun is sneaking...
Its a long way to sneak this will take several minutes...
This is NOT stock RUU!!
Quit...

I went on the support channel and they told me to re start. I did and the first time I tried the RUU didn't finish downloading. So far so good.

I am officially S-OFF :)

nice congrats!!!!!!!!

now go and get your flash on:D

Yeah, hit menu then "Install Open Recovery Script"

You can also do it through bootloader if you want. Most people prefer Goo Manager because it's easier.

Ok thats what I thought. Is there any files that need to stay on the sd card? I think the OG evo you needed to keep 3 files on the sd card.

How do I get SuperSU or SuperUser on my phone? Do I need to flash a stock rooted rom?

it is in the guide. it is step 3 in both methods of dirty racun.

i would flash a custom rom as they are sooooooo much better then stock. you can get them here:http://androidforums.com/evo-4g-lte-all-things-root/614073-list-utilities-roms-kernels.html. try the staff picks as they are some great suggestions for roms to try out. for me i like aosp roms which has is pure android with no sense cooked in. if you want to try out an aosp rom my suggestion would be to try the pacman rom.

Sorry I didnt realize it was in the guide. I was just happy to got s-off and didnt continue reading. I was thinking of getting everything set up on the stock rom and making a nand back up, incase I screw anything up or dont like a rom.

that is a great plan. just follow the guide and you will be all good. and keep the questions coming if you have them.

I was wondering if you guys can help me choose a backup app. I know a lot of people use Titanium. Im looking for something that will back everything up (sms, mms, homescreens, wallpapers, widgets, bookmarks, e-mail accounts, apps and app data, system settings and system data) Then be able to restore it after I flash a rom. I was looking at titanium backup pro, my back up pro, and ROM tool box pro. Thanks

When roms change, some things won't always restore properly. I've found that this is especially true with accounts and system settings.

If wallpapers are baked in, I know of no backup apps that will touch those. If not, they're usually already on your sd card somewhere.

One of the things that I like about Nova launcher is that I can backup my homescreen layouts. Some widgets must be reconfigured upon restore, some not.

You can't back up baked in widgets, others are their own apps or come with them and those will be backed up as a matter of course.

Titanium is the most advanced, but so is it's user interface. We have a forum FAQ for it.

MyBackup Root is easier to use, free and worth checking out. Slower on the restores but that's a personal decision if that's a problem. It's very straightforward to backup SMS, MMS and other data with it.

Hope this helps! :)

Thanks for helping me understand. I wasn't sure if one of the backup apps did everything. I think its time to back my stuff up and flash a rom.

One more question. Do all the roms based off the latest update need the latest firmware from CapThrowback?

I've seen a lot of varying opinions on firmware updates over the years and there are two camps on that, and we don't always agree.

I belong to the camp that says, roms contain kernels, kernels connect to hardware, not really, kernels connect to firmware that connects to hardware - and so if you're going to run up-to-date roms/kernels, then go with up-to-date firmware.

One thing for certain, if you have a rom dev that says, use the latest firmware, then believe it - you'll get little or no support/sympathy/help from them running configurations that they didn't build for.

I can say with confidence that if you're going with Viper4G, please be on the latest firmware - but that's just the one example I know.

PS - in addition to your app/data backups - please always do a nandroid backup before flashing any rom.
