Root Luvin' FroShedYo v10

You may want to try wiping battery stats. After restarting in Recovery, go to the wipe menu, choose wipe battery stats, and then restart. Some say that you need to be 100% charged when you do this, then restart and keep it on the charger until it is 100% again, and then run the phone until the battery drains, but I personally don't believe that this hocus-pocus is necessary. I;d just try wiping battery stats.

Also, you can look in settings->about phone->battery use and see what's been using the battery.

I tried that "hocus pocus", to the "T". I was at 100% when I installed GSB. I wiped stats at 100%. I let the phone die completely. Even tried to turn it back on. Nothing. Dead. So, I charged uninterrupted to 100%. Then, drained again. Completely. Charged uninterrupted to 100%, and honestly, I noticed the smallest increase in battery life at best. So........

Here is what I do NOT understand. I have my display at the lowest end of the bar. I don't do the "automatic". The screen is set to time-out at 1 minute. Yet, when I check "what has been using my battery", it's DISPLAY over 70% everytime. And the worst thing is, I haven't been using the phone much. I've been downloading, so, once I have everything set to download, I let the phone time-out, set it down, and walk away. Ugh. Any other reason why my display is eating up my battery even when I have the settings low as heck? I get 3-4 hours out of a charge at best!! (I use phone alot, but still)

EXAMPLE: Today I am loading songs. Here is my top 5 items on "what has been using battery".....
1. Display 62% (ok, this one is under 70,LOL, but still)
2. Voice Calls 11%
3. Android System 9%
4. Top Songs 9%
5. Standby 3%

There's more but miniscule. So, what's up the the display being so high? (I never started paying attention to this until I rooted)

I miss seeing your posts around here, Bishop! :)

(they haven't locked me out yet! [don't give Frisco any ideas, though ;) :p]).

Cheers!

Thanks buddy. Lock you out eh? The Great Scary Alien?! Imagine the anarchy that would cause. I have noticed one thing after not visiting the forums as often....I don't get placed on "Probation" nearly as frequently.

Gasp...there's a V11 out

You actually want the screen to be the highest. That means that the ROM is not using all kinds of resources. Here is an explanation from the Tazz Froyo thread on xda:

"Why is my display percentage of use so high in battery usage stats?
This is exactly what you want. Keep in mind this is percentage of battery use, not percentage of the whole day. Basically think of it like this. If your phone has been unplugged for 4 hrs and you have been doing stuff with your phone 70% of all your battery usage for 4hrs has been to light the display. The problem would come if 70% went to cell tower roaming/wifi/camera/other apps. That would mean they are constantly running in the background draining your battery. The display only uses battery when lit. The percentage is high only because all the other things are running effeciently thus making the time the display is on the high peice of the pie.You also don't need to set the display too low to save battery. Around 40% should be fine for good battery life."

Apparently one thing that does work is the "bump charge" procedure, where you charge to a green light (with the phone powered off - i.e., shut the phone down and do not turn it on while charging.) Then pull the power for a count of 5 or so and then plug in again. If it is an amber charge LED, wait until it turns green again. Keep on doing this until it starts turning green almost as soon as you plug it back in.

This does tend to give you more short-term battery life, and the expense of long-term battery health - it is stressful to the battery and will reduce it's longevity.

So, this is something that you do not want to do casually.

(I'm not saying that wiping stats doesn't work - I think it will fix things if the battery stats are faulty - but the whole deeply discharge, deeply charge, deeply discharge I think is the hocus-pocus - and my understanding is that this is stressful to a Li-ion battery. Li-ion batteries do not like deep discharge cycles at all, though occasional cycles are ok to recalibrate those sensors. I think people who do it every time that they flash a new ROM are just hurting their battery more than getting any more life from it.)

Well that's very good news.Looking at my battery usage, my phone appears to be running quite efficiently then. I just bumped my display up to 40%. Thanks.

Helpful info! I was doing the "bump" charge for awhile also. It does indeed improve your short-term usage. I did not know it would have adverse affects on the LTL of the battery.
