Root M8 flashed firmware in cmd, now stuck in HBOOT

I spoke too soon. Just had a buddy try to call me and "I'm sorry, but the person youre trying to call has a voicemail box that hasn't been set up yet" ..........patience is a virtue........heartbreak again

Ya know....dealing with tech support is like Windows os. There's always a different way in. Today's tech was smart enough to ask about the imei number. The one in their system was from the bricked phone previous to this one. Need I say more?

OK, perfect. Rotflmao (sorry but I just am because I was there 5 or 6 years ago with the same thing)

I take it that they've finally pushed out the tower list to your actual phone and stopped routing your calls to the old device.

And therefore - victory, yeah? :)

And before you ask - nothing we're doing is going to bork the IMEI number - that's fixed in the phone.

Sadly, be prepared to call them again but the next time you can bring up the IMEI problem.

The tech has to enter it right, usually not a problem, and then it has to propagate through the system - which - isn't supposed to be a problem. Usually isn't. But, you know.

What remains a mystery is....I was receiving calls before I flashed the Rom. Not that it's the fault of the Rom, but how , if they had my old phone's imei number in their system, was I doing it? That one is probably still in the refurbished bin or sitting off in a box in some warehouse. One thing is certain. I'm not losing any sleep over it.

It was kinda nice not being bugged by my phone though

But it's nicer now and I'm ready to conquer the next beast. Confidence is fully restored. Liking the new Viper Rom too! Glad I went with it. Now it's on to spicing up an old Inspire to hopefully fend off that upgrade demon. Someday soon.

On my carrier, sometimes when you rom the phone gets or needs to get reprovisioned - kind of like activated. And your records at their end have to be right.

If it's similar on AT&T then maybe that explains the behavior for both - something hosed in the records and no one looking at the right thing.

I don't honestly know about how AT&T works, so I agree - nothing to lose sleep over.

All we need to know about how carriers work at that level is that they should work pretty good or it's their fault. :D

When it comes to the viper Rom, how do I center up my homescreen? It should be more to the right as you can see. It's been doing this intermittently and happens on the second and third screens. The first one being the news updates screen.

Went ahead and donated to get tweaks. How do you get sidebar? Is there a way to get rid of red letter boot up "This build is......" ?

Assign a key to activate it in Venom Tweaks. In the video, they chose a long back press.

The eye at the bottom (you can see it being lit up while pressed in the video) cycles it through its various modes.

I don't care for Google Now, so I've turned off my sweep up home key gesture and turn on Venom Sidebar with a long home press - just to give an example of how you can make this all as flexible as suits your tastes.

No matter what I'm doing, I'm a long home press away from my camera, gallery, Play Store, and music - stuff I got tired of navigating to when I was in the middle of other things.

The video shows the tiny apps where you can put multiple windows on top of windows - use the eye key to get to that on the Sidebar.

It's pretty handy.

Thanks! That'd be one less eyebrow raiser. Good news on the Mercedes is....the check engine light went off and stayed off two nights after it came on! That's always a relief.

Oh yeah, one more thing. The black bar with the return button, the home icon, and tabs button. It constantly covers the right edge in landscape, and Ive tried rotating to portrait and back to make it go away. Sometimes it doesn't mostly it doesn't. I've tried swiping it away, tapping it away. It's persistent!

Two choices -

Find and fix bug.

Switch to Nova launcher.

I use Nova. Advantages include being able to save your desktop separately so you can go from rom to rom and not lose your setup.

The regular M8 forum has a sticky thread for tips - inside you'll find instructions on how to make Blinkfeed available even though using Nova.

You'll lose your HTC widgets. I recommend Transparent Clock and Weather by Droid27.

Otherwise, you'll have to check the XDA thread or open a support ticket at venomroms.com - I don't use the stock launcher so I'm not sure about that bug.

Maybe there's an easy fix - not sure.

OK, took me a while to track down, I hadn't played with it since last year.

In order to remove the red text, you're going to have to edit the hboot itself - and blank out the message.

One false move and you have a paperweight.

Let me know if you're still interested.

Ok - you're going to replace your hboot.

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2710503

Get - https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=95916177934552711

Per his instructions -

Download your modified hboot
2.) Rename the file to 0P6BIMG.zip
3.) Put the renamed file on your external_SD (not internal)
4.) Boot into hboot, it should see the file and prompt you to update
5.) After you have updated your hboot, make sure to remove the 0P6BIMG.zip from your external_sd.
Or else it will see the file and prompt you to update, every time you reboot to bootloader/hboot.

Remember - that's a ZERO not an OH at the beginning of 0P6BIMG.zip

Check it with a file browser on the phone (the built-in one will do) make sure it's not named 0P6BIMG.zip.zip - just 0P6BIMG.zip

EDIT - PS - found it already blanked, with help from @scotty85 !
